hi all
what a grt site, thought i would introduce my self and ask for some advice. i have posted this on the disco pages as well hope to get info on both.
i used to have a 200 disco a few years back but am now landyless and are getting the cravings again, and on the lookout for one,
Heart says go for a p38 on petrol/lpg converted but Heads says 300 tdi discovery, i need help
i am asumming that the problems to look out for with the 300 tdi are much the same as the 200 disco, correct me if iam wrong, but i have no idea were to start with a rangie, apart from service history, air suspention rising and falling ok and the common sense things, but dont want to end up buy a money pit.
As much help and advise greatly needed and appreciated if possible please
many thanks
nidge

Discoveries aren't as complex (or nice to drive) as the P38's but then again the rangie won't disappear before your very eyes in a pile of rust !
As with a Disco look for a good service history and shop around - there are plenty of both about, some good, some dogs.
One things for sure - I bet more people on this forum tell you to go for a rangie and on the disco forum to go for one of them !

yer i know that but thought i would try to start an aurgument between the 2 forums

:D

Well I have had both a disco 1 and a TD5 (briefly) in the past and I don't know why but I just can't get on with them at all
I don't why, they are good enough motors but I just can't put my finger on it - guess they are just not for me
In fact when I think about it, this is my Landy history
RR classic
series lla
series lll
110 V8 csw
dISCO 1 v8 LPG
90 csw
110 csw V8 lpg
RRclassic
Disco ll TD5
P38 4.6 V8
Not all owned at the same time !
How could I ! - I forgot my favourite - a 110 V8 pick-up.........................what a great workhorse
Oh - and my wee fella's got a lifted 200 tdi 90

Coming from a Series III background, myself and a friend have always said since they came out that the Discos are not "Real" Land Rovers...basically because they were new and looked odd on off road courses (kind of like seeing people taking there Vitaras over a hill).

Then Land Rover brought the FreeLander out and we moved our focus of amusement to those!

Anyhoo no help at all I know - especially as I've never driven a Disco, just thought I'd share some useless information :)

No competition!

I've owned a Freelander which was OK, driven a Disco which was OK, owned a Range Rover Classic which was great fun, but fell apart, owned a P38 which was great, but getting past it and now have a MK3 4.4 HSE which is FANTASTIC!

nigm - if you can afford the repair bills and the fuel - BUY A RANGIE!
