I've just done a drain test and this is what I found:

Locking the car shows 4 amps which drops down over 30 seconds to 2.8 amps.

After around 10 minutes it's right down to 0.7 amps with the red light in car still on.

After around 20 minutes and with the red light in car off it's down to 0.2 amps.

Same thing again but with fuse 28 for headlight wipers pulled it settles down after 20 minutes to 0.06 amps.

So could the 0.2 amps drain from headlight wipers be enough to totally drain my battery over a week or so ??
That would depend on the condition of the battery and the state of charge.
You are looking at 30/40Ah over a week, so an 80Ah that was fully charged would be down to half charge, if it was less than fully charged or a bit tired it would be close to flat.
 
did your sat work ok after you disconnected and put the new one on ?
If you don not wait for the red light to go out on the SatNav drive before you disconnect the battery, it can wipe the internal flash memory rendering the unit inoperative.

Yes I waited for the red light on the sat nav to go out before disconnecting etc.

I should add that when I checked the drain figures, the red light I was talking about was the one between the front seats that shows the car is going to sleep.

Just doing the maths, if you have the 110 Ah battery with a drain of 0.2 amps, in theory it should lat 550 hours which is 22 days I reckon but that would be to totally drain the battery, it would fail to start the car way before then. i would fully charge the battery, i have an optimate 6 which is a handy piece of kit, and leave the fuse out for the wipers and see how it goes, i would have thought any constant drain would be bad news
 
Well I'm wondering how good the battery was to start with. Once fitted it wasn't driven due to the other problems I was trying to sort out first. I took it out the garage to replace the top water hose and service it but that's it, hasn't been driven for over 2 weeks.

I'm going to leave the fuse out and I'm going to buy one of those solar power battery conditioners that plugs into the lighter socket, see what that does.
 
quite often when you take a car to a garage they will unlock it and leave it unlocked all day or the whole time it's there which i have found for a range isn't good news as it tends to lie awake thinking about stuff that doesn't matter and drain the battery, i know how it feels.
The solar panel thing will probably help but will mask the problem and wont really tell you if you have solved it, your call though of course:)

Check the lighter socket is live with the ignition off, it's not on my P38.
A decent 12 watt solar panel with regulator is the way to do it.
 
As Saint said in post #2, FSR or headlight wipers. IM on my 3rd FSR in 6 years and also currently puuled the fuse on my headlight wipers as one was stopping in a different position (too low) and when i tested it, was creating a drain on the battery. Apparently its a common thing to fail (along with the FSR).
 
When I had this problem a couple of years ago with the constant battery drain overnight, the solution I was given and it worked was simply to remove the RF lead from the aerial as it was picking up wifi signals that kept the brain awake. Simple 2 min job all fixed no further problems.

That works on the P38 but is not an issue on the L322
