True, but if the EGR fails to open on command, the system is unaware as evidenced by the fact that you can block the vacuum pipe and no fault is reported. Do that on the Transit and it logs a fault and eventually goes into limp mode.


Then it's a bloody good job that is not built into the P38, the motorway hard shoulders would be nose to tail. :):):):D
 
Just out of interest what is the thingy called that the other end of the vacuum pipe coming off the EGR plugs into?

OK have read all this stuff am new to landyzone and this thread may be a bit old, but.........here is my experience.
2001RR 2.5dse owned for 2 years mileage 80,000
A lot to like about this vehicle and a lot not to like
done a lot to it, and spent considerable dosh
Removed EGR and fitted a straight thro pipe kit, result a distinct improvement
Tried removing air filter, no difference so wont be wasting any money on a "sports" air filter.
tried disconecting intake pipe after the MAF unit, result, a distinct decrease in power so for me this unit has something to do with the fueling.
Fitted monster intercooler....... not much difference
Had a performance chip fitted in ECU made a fair bit of difference.
The thing goes pretty good now but still have to give it the lead boot
Gonna get the best I can out of this vehicle if it kills me, I am not happy to leave well alone.
Next thing is a bit more boost on turbo. maybe modify exhaust and may even try an allisport tuning module.

If it's an auto, budget for a new gearbox, ti's on the limit as standard,oh and maybe a new cylinder head too.:whoosh:

have the cat removed will help turbo spool up quicker, as you are running a big intercooler up the boost the intercooler will keep charge air temps lower and should help prevent head cracking i know when jeremy fearn does a conversion with a big intercooler he ups the boost. i used to run 20psi on my old dse.
intercooler hoses change to silicone pipework so you dont lose boost pressure due to hoses expanding.
they will never be a rocket ship due to the weight but you can make them considerable quicker! but as data says the gearbox on the auto is barely up to the job as it is, but ashcroft do rebuild and uprate the 4hp22 using the 24 internals and even do an uprated torque converter if your pockets are deep enough!

maybe worded incorrectly but it all helps throttle response/lag more obvious when the originals are soft and knackered!


We are talking a DSE here not a bloody FI car. The difference between good standard and silicone would be totally inperceptable. Standard ones will degrade over time the silicone less so. But worth the outlay for a couple of milliseconds of throttle responce i would say not. Think the good to look at when you show your mates the engine, is the far greater incentive to fit them.

The turbo boost is next and I found a bunch of stuff relating to that somewhere on here but i cant find it now, does'nt matter I know what to do but access is a not easy. I have taken on board whats been said about auto box. Currently I am not that happy with this box anyway, there is a very bumpy change into 2nd SOME of the time. I think I am nearly as far as I want to go with this, its not a matter of hurtling about like a madman its the fascination of seeing what can be achieved and what works and what does,nt. So far I have not found a silicone pipe from cooler to manifold.

try allisport as they do a kit for pre maf dse so may be able to help with yours.
i know it doesnt make a huge difference in the same way as a performance air filter wont make a massive difference infact removing the viscous fan and fitting an electric cooling fan would make more but when all these things are coupled together they all add up to make an improvement

Autobox oil is supposed to be changed every 30K miles. Might be a good idea to change the oil and filter before you test it's limits. If the old oil comes out black the box is shagged anyway:)

I assume from the no MAF it's a diesel? They are normally sluggish when cold but you could check the MAP pipe is in place and not perished, ditto the turbo pipes.
 
Yes its a diesel, apologies.

It does move better when warm.
But when cold it really is truly scary.
Will check the map
Turbo spools up lovely when going
