Can anyone recommend a mechanic in the Leeds area who could change the front air suspension bags?

It's a 2004 Vogue & it's back end is up really high, front end really low & there's a hissing noise coming from the front when you get out.

I've tried raising and lowering it not doing anything at all.

I'm sort of struggling because I can't change the bags myself, I don't know anyone who can and the garage I use for my vans looked at me looked at me like I'd asked them to weld a unicorn to a pigeon.

Or if anyone can do it & is local to me I'm happy to pay anyone to do it and get it to them!

Thank you very much, it's like trying to get a moon rocket fixed sometimes! I've rung 5 garages now and none of them want to know, is the polish fella any good? In fairness I'm saying it's the bags I'm not certain it is.

He's very good on cars and my Disco 1 but not sure what hes like on the newer air suspension - he's mainly a commercial vehicles/vans sort of guy. I've just texted him and found he's on holiday in the USA for two weeks though!

I'd suggest you go with the local independent specialist, rather than the guy who can do cars and D1s. Simply because the Polish guy can most likely do it as it's not a hard or expensive job,, but you'll be back to searching for an indy when something happens that neither you nor he can do. It would also let you see what the indy is like. Give them a simple job like this, see how they treat it and you, then if you like the results, you have their number for when more complicated things go wrong.
I wish I had found my local indy specialist a lot sooner. When I first went there and saw everything from Series1 to L322 being worked on , I was happy as a pig in muck.
Good luck.

That's the kind of luck I'm having today lol thanks for trying though
4by41 in Wakefield are landrover specialists - it's a bit of an old school garage but they have a good rep round here for green oval stuff. The only problem you would have would be a long wait they are often in high demand.

The 'Discovery Centre' in Pool in Wharfedale have been operating for years. Work on anything Land Rover. Used them for 4 wheel alignment on my Classic and no complaints.

Then there's Four Plus, opposite main Land Rover Dealer. Good friend of mine is a mechanic there and they are very good, but might not be the cheapest!

Jake Wright Land Rover in Burley in Wharfedale. Been there as long as I can remember, good bunch of guys. I know plenty of people that use them, work on anything land rover...old or new.

Finally, don't discount the main dealers. Nothing wrong with phoning round to get some fixed costs. My mate needed a new heater matrix in his L322. While all the indies were quoting a price for parts plus labour dependent on how long it took, main dealer gave a fixed price which worked out cheaper!! That was using Farnells in Guiseley.

Hope this info is of some use.

Well I took it to a guy who fixes range rovers on Tong road at Leeds, he does do other cars but he does do a lot of range rovers.

It was a suspension bag that was split and I picked it up today.

However tonight the air suspension has turned itself off which if I remember from when I had the gearbox changed it did the same thing. They don't like being on ramps do they so I'm pretty sure it just needs recalibrating. (She says hopefully)!

I told a tyre to jack the bus via the axles. He wasn't very happy at not having the luxury of the lift!! Didn't fancy a finger pointing session if he'd of knocked the sensors out of range. He was happy when I bunged him a tenner for his inconvenience:D and I drive off at height and no worries:cool:

Well when I called in it was up in the air wheels hanging over the edge.

I'll be fair to the guy it was fine when I drove it away, fine for a few hours then it just thought, nope I'm having a hissy fit!!

I'm going to bob it back tomorrow let him get it on a laptop or whatever and get it out of its sulk!

It did the same when it had the gearbox changed. Fine for a day or two then it just turned off. Nipped it back don't know what he did but it was all fine again!

It better be, money trees had it!!!

So I took it back, no faults on the diagnostic and it all reset itself. It's gone off again so it looks like it needs recalibrating God love it

Possibility a worn sensor?
It's a pity you can't get any screen shots of the diagnostic to show.
I hope it is sorted soon!!;)

So do I it's turning into a nightmare.

Took it back Friday, no faults air suspension came up all good. By Friday night air suspension was inactive again but it didn't seem excessively low.

Takes it back in yesterday, rings up at 3 to see how it's going. Oh I've inflated all your tyres, no faults still I'm going to get it on the ramp and recalibrate it all I'll ring you by 5.

Calls in at 5.15, it was like talking to a different bloke. It could be the other airbag, it could be an air leak (it's not there's no hissing), I really need to get it on the ramp and have a look tomorrow. If I can't get it back on I'll have to have it towed to a 4x4 place.

So at the moment it seems my car is in a worse state than when I took him it, I've told him it's not going to the 4x4 and if he can't fix it I'll find someone to do it.

And what really annoyed me was I'm certain the car was in the same place I left it & he had pumped up all the tyres to see if that would work then left it

I would say ask for your car back NOW. I had a similar issue 2yrs ago with a garage, who gave it to another garage who "had diagnostics" ,whom I had to threaten with a theft charge, to get it back. He had had it 3 months, tore my interior out, 'chasing the fault", then took it to dealer , without telling me.
Turned out it was the compressor. Cost over £2k in the end , after paying stealer, to put car back together and fix compressor. For a simple job that a proper auto tech could've solved in 5 minutes.
Get her back , get an auto tech , who is only an auto tech and does diagnostics all day long to check her over
P.s My Golden Girl was gone for just over 4 months all in. Trust me you need to go get yours today.

I'm off for it at 4.30, I don't like doing it but I got a male of the species to ring and ask him what he was doing & that I needed the car back today. Turns it when he had replaced the suspension bag he had put two pipes on the wrong way. He wanted to keep it overnight just to see what it would do but we refused and said if it goes off again we will let you know.

I'm hoping that's an end to it, the hoses being on wrong would explain what was happening, he better not be expecting paying lol
