Hello you good folks ,i brought a 2005 2.7td v6 range rover with a major oil leak thought id take a gamble lol, anyway i started to strip engine down as the oil leak was very bad and found the cam belt an pullies look like new and so does the oil pump which looks like its been changed to the upgraded 1 , anyway after removing crank bolt the pulley came off easy only to find the oil seal about a 1" from the oil pump sitting place ,question is should the seal have been locktighted in ?

Some seals need a quick wipe of grease on the lip to stop it being damaged on the first rotation.
Some new seals come with a touch of grease already coated on the lip. I'd maybe loctite it around the outside incase the oil pump opening isn't quite exact the size it should be... As we all know some parts aren't worth the box they come in..

These seals must be installed dry, any oil/grease screws the seal up.

Hi All, I wanted to add to Mark’s comment about the Loctite on the outside edge. Make sure it’s fitted straight as it could be very difficult to remove again if it leaks. Use a retaining product not a studlock grade as they cure slower and deliver a more durable seal.
Good luck, Tricky.

Genuine LR seal used and new cam belt etc now its all back together and running perfectly no leaks well happy here. just need to sort the hot air in cabin as coolant was drained and its a bit late in the evening so sort that tomorrow
Just be sure those three little waterpump bolts weren't /aren't over tightened!! o_O
