Dear P38 Ireland your suggestion has been carried out to no avail . so thermostat was removed , my jam thermometer consigned to a pan of boiling water with thermostat and it seems to have seized ! so having released it, will try again in daylight .. hoping that water pump is ok as lack of viscous coupling spanner has become apparent ... ah well ebay here we come :5bbeatdeadhorse5:

ash g ... it seems the germans were correct if a little expensive as after fitting new radiator the thermostat was sticky and the water pump had blown too...

thanks to all advice and i am hoping and praying that all the little leaks [ 3rd time lucky in taking EVERYTHING OUT } have been sorted and i can put car in for MOT....

here is what you need,

thermostat Thermostat STC3338 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

water pump Water Pump 2.5 TD BMW STC3142 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

here are a few pics that might help.

here is a pic removing the fan, put the spanner on (i think its a 28mm) hit it a thump with a block of timber or rubber mallet (something that will adsorb the bang)

its very easy to change all of these. this was my 1st fix on my P38. im far from a mechanic and did that job with a socket set from lidl and a 28mm open face spanner i happened to have. those parts only cost £42.49 (without the radiator) it will take max 2 hrs for a novice to replace. chin up buddy YOU CAN DO IT!! lol

Dear P38 Ireland..

New radiator in , New water pump in and new thermostat.... yippeeeeeeee
btw the old water pump may have been the origional culprit in causing the explosion of everything else.. and it had a plastic fan, so new one has a metal fan ..
Car passed MOT !!!!!:D
Don't want to be a pessimist but i didn't have to wait long for the next problem .... but thats another thread as they say ...
