Hi, I have reconnected my R/F receiver today having bought a remote control switch to isolate the R/F when parked up. I plugged it in before I set up the remote to check it works but guess what, it doesn't. I then plugged in a spare receiver and that too doesn't work. Am I missing something or is the BECM in a huff with the receiver and won't speak to it. No point in fitting the remote till I sort this out.:(

Keys have to be synced to car. Or the fob will be sending radio one to a device tuned to radio two. Get the idea. How have you been locking and opening car?

Do you mean totally disconnecting RF receiver? Didn't think you could do that without causing something to shout foul. You learn something new every day. I know if you lock it with the fob and unlock it with the key it doesn't like it. :D:D

Mine's a 98, I think Keith said after 2000 models could be a problem. I have had it disconnected for nearly three years since I had all the trouble with locks burning out etc. Just been using the key without any problem. Bought a remote switch to isolate the power to the R/F (£9.99), I'll be buggered if I will pay the price they want for a new receiver.:)

With my battery constantly getting drained with the original '96 vintage gen1 RF
receiver before I replaced it with a new gen3 RF version, from reading online
here I disconnected the small left hand side (as you view the two plugs) single
blue feed wire and still had the plip unlock the car on the central locking - the
range wasn't more than inches off the receiver but it worked for me like this.

To help cut down the constant wake up BECM interogation routine I found I
didn't need to totally disconnect the receiver but the battery did still go flat!

Need to resync the keys and you need to use your remote switch to cut the output from the RF not remove the power as far as I know. There was a recent thread on it.

Yes, I got totally ****ed off buying new locks, having the BECM sorted, flat battery so I went for a complete disconnection of the receiver. When I leave the car when I am away (5 months a year but not all at once) I use a maintenance charger. I think my problem was due to spurious signals and an inadequate and flattening battery.:)

Yes, I'm trying to find it but cannot remember the title. That post prompted me to try the mod.:)

tomcat I see it looks like you used my mod how did you wire it in

First re synced the key as the r/f had been disconnected for nearly 3 years that was successful (thanks peeps).:) Wired the remote switch by picking up the + and - from the existing loom to the r/f. Cut the orange wire and wired that in and out of the switched side. Then the problem started. The remote switch was powering the receiver until you operated the remote then it would kill the circuit to the becm. This is the opposite of what is required. Checking the wiring diagram's supplied it is shown that the + and - can be reversed. Bollocks !!! when I reversed the wires the fecking thing blew up in my face and missed my eye by half an inch. Luckily I had taken it off the car to try this operation. So a long as I can access a remote switch that is open circuit when not in use and completes the circuit when the remote is operated I should be in business:D:D PS, I went for a single channel switch in "jog" mode ie. single button that operates the switch until it is released because I would have probably forgot to switch it off. Hope that all makes sense

blew up that don't sound a lot of fun :eek:I used a two channel remote, I don't know if it makes a difference sounds like it should work.

I was very lucky, hit me in the eye brow, like a pistol round and drew blood and swelling. I know wammers, pity it didn't hit me I the cock. I will see what the supplier says and go from there. How are you getting on with yours?:)

mine works well, no probbs so far just have to keep reminding the wife to press the delatch button. wouldn't have thought connecting round the other way would have that effect normally just get smoke.

Yes, especially as their wiring diagram shows that it can be wired both ways:)
