Morning all - first post here. At the weekend I am going to look at a second hand Range Rover and I would really appreciate any thoughts on what to look out for and what the common faults are.
If I buy it i would be interested in changing the wheels as they are currently 18" and I prefer the look of a slightly larger set - 20" perhaps. Can this change be made simply or is it a more complicated process?

The car is a 2004 3.0 Td6 Vogue SE with 50k on the clock and a FSH

Interestingly, I can't find a record of this model - am I right in saying that it should be either a Vogue or an HSE? Is there a definitive list of all model variants and their production years that I can check against?

Well, I believe that you were using 'Gay' as a derogaotory term given that you were advising me not to get wheels of that 'type'.
And yes, I get you. Personal taste (gay or not) but I believe that the RR looks better sitting on slightly larger rims - not spinners, chrome or 3 spoke, but sublte and with a slightly lower tyre profile.
 
Dont think you'd find many on ere who'd advise ya fit 20" wheels but if ya like em that much then go ahead n fit em.
 
I think this conversation has run it's course. I shall go elsewhere to look for constructive input.
And to finish, the point I was making is this. You asked the question "who sed (sic) I'm un gay" The answer is that you did, by using Gay as a derogatory name.

entirely rediculas statement.I made no reference to meself or my sexuality.:welcome2:
 
If you think that the RR looks better with big wheels stick em on in my opinion it will look pretty nasty and cheap but thats only my opinion of course. Or buy a beemer that might suit the big wheels better
 
I think the 20 inch rims look nice but dont put the ultra low profile tyres on them as it rides like a shopping trolly, shake the fillings out of your theeth, the way this thread is going i am not saying you have fillings in your teeth

Hi,
I bought a 2003 HSE last year and have been generally happy with it though there are a few things to be aware of with any 5 + year old vehicle.
Ensure all the recalls have been attended to they have had major problems with driveshafts and front diff. The driveshaft should have been replaced under warranty.
Models of that year also can have problems with the steering column overtravel, again that should have been rectified under warranty recall.
Try and get a Vogue as the radio display is far superior to the HSE. My display has faded to nothing and will cost £200 + to fix.
I changed my wheels to 20" with scorpion tyres all bought on ebay and it looks fantastic, much better than the standard wheels.
The TD6 engine is noisy, especially under load. If I had my time again I would have bought petrol as the refinement is far superior and the fuel saving minimal.
If buying from a dealer ensure a cast iron warranty to cover everything as they are very expensive to repair and make sure you have at least 2 keys as LR want £260 for a replacement.
Overall thay are a brilliant vehicle but if things go wrong they can soon bankrupt you.
