Oh yeah, it isn't cheap business. There is a proposal for us to get a 4x4 Sprinter (as used by RAF MRT). The vehicle and coach work would come in the region of 75k. It is on the back burner for now. :p

Yep that'd definitely be on the back burner for us for the foreseeable future (forever)!

Aye, it has for us too, we currently run 2 110s, 1 Sprinter, a fund raising trailer and have a minibus due soon to ferry around team members. We need a bigger base before getting more vehicles. :p

We have and the answer is we need 2!

More so for the water search side. We response within the region for FS &Police and the team can, and has been, deployed nationally for DEFRA for flood rescue so it's a requirement for towing boats basically!

So none of your member drive 4x4's then??

Slightly off topic here but hey this is LZ. ;) here goes.

If you want to reliably pull a boat through water, or get up a mountain pass or across a boggy field you dont want a Disco2.

There is a number of electrical faults with Disco2's that will cost you alot to repair and maintain.

I think i would be looking at a nissan patrol or a toyota land cruiser myself.

Certainly not moving from a 300tdi engine to a TD5 thats full of electrics to tow boats. :(

Anyway. To sell it.

eBay is your widest audience, by a country mile.
Try classic car sites.
maybe even pistonheads and auto trader.

Maybe call an independent landrover specialist they might be willing to do you a deal for the ambulance in exchange for the TD5s. One close to me is Foleys they seem to specialise in the weird and wonderful and normally well over priced stuff. They have a 130 300tdi camper on their website for sale at moment for 17k.

I used to drive a Nissan patrol response ambulance, was bloody ace as a working vehicle (unless you were in the attendant seat which had limited leg room) as a working vehicle it was superb,

Td5 discos are too old to be an option. Plenty of response 110s that are newer or disco 3 response vehicles. Some local councils have em for emergancy planning etc that will be replaced soon. Or try shb. The 110 ambulance off the olympics aint needed anymore see what theyve got but dont get a disco 2 the newest will be a decade old.

I agree about the 300 TDI engine its that one were thinking of, not a TD5!. I think once we've sold her we'll give the replacement vehicles some serious consideration before parting with any cash.

Thanks all for your help & advice lads, its appreciated;)

Given they are a genuine charity would it not be acceptable to the forum to allow this to be advertised on the site, regardless of the fact they are below 50 posts?

If it were for personal gain, then off you go please. But for a genuine charity and its rather an interesting vehicle!

The RAF seem to love their Toyota's, based on the guys from Leconfield I've spoken to about them, a team round the corner uses Ford Rangers and they like them too. As much as we like to claim Landies as being the best, they are pretty rough for our customers. Once the 110s in our fleet are up for renewal we're going down the pickup truck route too.

Well for a 300 TDi you are looking at late Discovery 1 not 2 so you will be looking at 14-15 years old now swo most likley need a lot of work on them.

IMO I think you would be better keeping the Ambulance as it should last for years.

And if you are stuck for moving something in a hurry in support of an emergency, check your local 4x4 Response group ;)
