A 300 sounds great on a straight pipe ;)


That being said I'm running an old high displacement small block and my mate runs an 8L Keith Black engine :D
 
Rover V8's are not crap - they are actually very good - they are just not big enough to haul around 2.5-tonne AWD cars - in MGs, TVRs, Rovers and the like they are lovely.

I myself have gone down the American route, but it is not as simple as just dropping in an LS or a hemi - the amount of engineering involved is pretty extensive.

All you grease monkeys on here aren't daunted by this but our host wants sensible upgrades that are proven and easy to do.

And of course in a 12000-mile vehicle originality is going to be important.

No doubt Evil and Zen will shout me down but I feel my point is valid.

I've never driven a yank v8 (well the RV8 is based on one anyway) but any V8 is nice. And believe me (I looked extensively), the cheapest way to V8 ownership in the UK, is an RRC or a Disco (OK forget those POS Lexus 400 things). So go RV8s :D

how misinforned you are...those lexus 300hp totally reliable CHEAP engines are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD i had to supercharge one and install it into a 2 door range rover...400hp..20+mpg japanese reliability...oh the engine cost £80....
 
Thanks for all the comments, TBH i am really looking for a drive in drive out service :).. The real question is do i spend the cash on upgrades to get the V8 upto a nice power output approx 200bhp or do i just take the jump and install another engine...

i thought i gave a break down of cheap rv8 upgrades to give circa 200hp??

in op case with 12000miles if indeed true, then i would be keeping engine as is..ie rv8..efi,manifolds.nice exhaust cam etc...
 
Totally agree with Zen. The Lexus 1uzfe engine is a brilliant!

All alloy engine so incredibly light. Friend is drifting a PS13 with one with throttles bodies, turboed and on NOS and its making well over 500bhp. Sounds insane too! :)

Only trouble with them is manual gearboxes really but with abit of engineering, any gearbox can be made work really.
Friend stuck a M60b40 out of a BMW 540 into a 110 for Fast6 too last year and it went very nicely too :)


Can totally understand why staying with a RV8 is better for a low mileage landie though :)
Not saying they are a bad engine, just false economy for gaining both decent power, reliability and practicality.

If its only don 12k ,engine will be quite fresh, just stick a nitrous kit on it,100 hp at push of a button when you need it,when not using it runs nice smooth and economical ,kits are only about £3-400 new

Indeed. Nitrous is extremely good value for your money. Can set it up that it comes on when you press the throttle to the floor very easily too by using a factory auto kick-down switch on the accelerator pedal too.

More clever kits can be programmed to come on progressively or at certain rev-ranges and loads too.
