Lets be honest. if you want reliabilty by something jap.
What can you expect from something built by bearded, ale drinking communists.
freelanders are no more problematic than a defender or discovery.
What a Landrover does is create and air of nostalgia only available by having the green oval. However I love them!! they do break a lot! however they are cheap to fix.
the freelander is the one the proper offroaders forget about or more likely would like to.
However i feel they are missing the point, the only seroius issuie i feel is the clutch, lucky if you get 60K out of it. tyre wear is outstanding michilins can get you about 55K we have just changed the wife's and i didnt care about the cost at that milaege. apart from axle articulation you will get everwhere a defender will and further if it is really soft.
I scum the nuts of the wifes when i borrow it and it still does 36ish mpg.
a little boaty, but it makes my disco 2 td5 seem very slow. although the td5 with ace corners shockingly well.
the build quality isnt great but its a landrover. to sum it up we bought ours new in 2003 it has done 60K now and it needs a clutch, aprt from a split hose done under warranty its been fualtless. dont let the early horror stories put you off.
looks better than a poncy rav4 or x-trail, if you dont care about mpg then a late model td5 discovery with ace and air is a very nice ride.
Oh and just to **** of the lr3 owners it corners better. they have toned down the ace to let you know when your cornering to hard. Think ill be the judge of that.
I heard bearmach are doing an antiroll bar kit for the freelander which apparently makes it feel a bit more like the freelander sport, which i found very nice to drive.
lastly the autobox is nice but i found it made it significantly slower especially top end.
thats my 2 pence
