Hi all

I have a pulsating noise that seems to be in the front, that I am trying to diagnose on my L322 3L Diesel year 2004.
I live in Glasgow and took it to a garage that are susposed to be experts in Range Rover called "Elite Range Rover" in Clydebank, South Douglas Street, however I was scammed as they charged me £110 and didn't even take it for a test drive ! They said the wiper blade was worn and there was wear on one of the front tyres which I advised them about before hand. The told me that they were unable to take it for a test drive because the wiper blade and worn tyre but I still would have to pay the £110, absolutely disgusting ! I politely asked if they could perhaps go 50% as they didn't test anything on my car, but they told me to f##k off and I need to pay or else ! so beware of Elite Range Rover - Clydebank in Glasgow and avoid like the plague !

What I have checked:
At first I thought it was a wheel bearing but I have removed both front wheels and do not feel any play on the bearing. I have another set of wheels so I swapped the front with different wheel and no change in symptoms so rules out a bad tyre.
I find that the sound seems to quieten when turning, but in a straight line it sounds like a pulsating noise, however I do not feel anything on the steering wheel?
If I shift to neutral to rule out the gearbox, there is not change in the pulsating sound.
Gut feeling is a drive shaft? I will place my gopro on under the car and see tomorrow,

Any advise would be great !

Never coast in neutral with an auto, you'll knacker the box.

Model? Year? Wheel bearing or CV joint spring to mind.

Incidentally, put a full review of the garage on Trustpilot and report to Trading Standards and maybe the AA / RAC.

Must confess I also thought it was something that shouldn’t ever be done by putting it into neutral
As long as the engine is running to drive the auto box oil pump, a brief spell in neutral should do no harm. Coasting with the engine off is a different matter, no oil pressure.

This.

Many people don't realise that the only reason we don't tow autos is because the oil pump is driven from the engine side.
If engine is running it's fine.

Wheel bearings do not alway have play when they are on their way out.

I am really sorry should have said, its an L322 3L Diesel year 2004.

Thanks for the advise, I will go to trust pilot. For my car I do not believe its a bearing as checking each side I do nto feel any play, but could be wrong. Is the CV joint spring easy to check and fix do you know?

Spring to mind, not CV joint spring  As said in your other multiple post, a noisy wheel bearing does not always mean there will be discernable play, pitting of the race will produce the noise with no play.

I wondered about that too but had to bite my tongue not to mention winker fluid 🤭🤔🙄

Bit left field, but have you examined your brake discs? If you had to apply your brakes to avoid a collision etc there is a possibility that you may have 'scarred' the disc. They are not too expensive to replace if you do the work yourself, we had a similar issue once after a 'kamakazie' deliveroo driver did his best to go under the wheels of our Rangey!

Brake discs are good, I replaced them about 2 years ago

As said about the wheel bearings, on my D2 I had the same type of noise which got worse when going round right hand corners but no noise on right handers with absolutely no play in the offending hub/bearing, replaced hub & noise disappeared.
