98 bag of poo should do it!!

it'll run on xp tho

do you have it?

do you want it?

what do you propose to do with it once installed?

do you think i should be asleep yet?

yes u should be asleep gav, gotta keep earning so you can pay yer tax etc to keep me.:D:D

Why are you inventing the wheel again????

Nanocom is already working on the P38, most of the disco II is already done except for the V8 ecu( will be covered in de P38). The Nanocom price tag is not that high if you take in consideration the free upgrades!

I am very happy with my Nanocom.

Regards,

Gerhard

nanocom doesnt support the level of programming that things such as rovacom support.

the free updates mean nothing really as if you get this or rsw's forthcoming invention updates will be free too!

No I don't have a copy of RDS at the moment, but I do have the data disc.

I'm hoping to use it once it's installed, cause I think I've located a set of cables etc. and I don't think the guy knows what a holy grail they are to LR owners, so they might be a very reasonable price.

And I can't say whether you should be asleep or not, cause I'm a night owl myself.:D

Well there's good news and there's bad news.

First the good news the ELM327 I bought from eBay does work as I've just tested it on a TDV6.

So the bad news of course is that since it can't talk to my car the software development can't proceed as I've got nothing to test it on.

Just thought you'd all like to know. But this of course raises a question. When I took it to the garage their handheld device was able to speak to it! Can any one explain that?

i can guess, could it be (and i know your computer literate) that the diesel uses bmw ecu for the engine? maybe its a kwp protocol, maybe!!

in which case it'll need a kwp interface, dunno if i'm anywhere near but i do think it should work, its all generic stuff.

If its any help. I have a generic off the shelf usb OBD interface that refuses to connect when using Digimoto, but goes straight in when using ScanXL.....

Damm! just had email detailing the cables on offer, and although it is a full set of LR cables for the various functions, the VCSI isn't there. Back to the drawing board! Really had my hopes up there for a while.

Petrol / Gas beauty. Interface
Software - ScanXL seems to work, TouchScan- works ok, Digimoto 4 No go.

I like the look of the Digimoto, but cant seem to get it to connect. Any ideas Gav ?

aye the vsci is a pain in the ass to obtain!!

you can get the ford ones, for later rr's, quite easy!

i can send you a linky to the rds, it works but will take over your comp, you have to alter the registry and summat else but i forgot what!

its only about 70mb for the rds!

i have no idea what your all talking about but if it will save going to a workshop and paying there prices great i don't understand computers and software but if i can help in any way count me in :D:D:D

Nanocom can do the same things as rovacom, blackbox solutions and the Landrover diagnostic systems! It is not a simple fault code reader, you can acces all the parameters en test procedures on the BCU, TDI engine, Slabs and ace on the discovery II and the Defender models. Work on the P38 is in progress and will be free for existing and new users!

Regards

Ps keep dreaming on, reverse engineering all the possible parameters is a hell of a job. Other people have done that already!

The project wasn't to reverse engineer other peoples work bit to write our own implementation using the applicable ISO documentation for guidance, everything I need to know is in these pages, albeit at a hefty cost of 500USD but, IMHO money well spent for what I would hope would have been an exceptional product.

so they are re inventing the wheel!

dumbass!

facts are, as yet it cannot be done other than what is already released!

as for reverse engineering, if people can code it then there is someone who can de code it!!

its been done many times on software thats more complicated than stuff that will run on a '98 o/s.

in fact this computer is running an o/s thats only a couple of months old and is made by a company more profitable than whoever makes nanocom.

(john, i havnt forgot, still testing)

it took me seconds to circumvent any protection it may be using.

its been achieved by a group effort, as such it is of benefit to many!

stop bigging up a device that doesnt work and its costly. we are trying to achieve a solution that will benefit us all without having to shell out hundreds just to find out that the cars ferked and spend yet more hundreds.

as for dealers and specialists, who cares if they don't make money. i have the right to repair my own vehicle. they wont get my custom anyway and i have no interest in bieng a mechanic for a livin. it would spoil the fun.

i might aswell plug a cucumber into the dlc as plug a nanocom in!!

:welcome2:

so i assume thats the end of the idea of doing it for the P38 then? so i suppose wait for RSW to release theres? anyone know when that will be?
