1985 seems to have been a complex period in RR construction. Fuel injection was first introduced (along with it's ECU), just after they built mine in August I'm thinking. Leccy windows, mirrors and aircon were optional, as were 4sp, 5sp, or Auto boxes, and who knows what else was thrown into the mix. Mine does have an electronic ignition module though.
The hardest bit being trying to work out which wiring diagram to go by ???
The one I've latched onto for mine clearly shows a 20way fuse box in the middle, just as there is right in the middle of my dashboard. It seems to be the only diagram that shows this fuse box, but I have found several places where the diagram just doesn't make sense.
Does your RRC have this 20way central fuse box, and as Fett asked, is it a two or four door? Just checking if we're singing from the same hymn sheet, like.
Item 93 (starter solenoid relay) shows five connections ...
1 ... +batt
2 ... ign sw
3... starter solenoid
4 ... air con ???
5 ... earth (which goes via the start inhibit switch for an automatic).
My interpretation ... no earth = no go.
Mystified why there's an aircon connection here though.
Not a problem for me as I don't have aircon.
I'm assuming these relays are somewhere inside the dashboard as I've not seen any yet, apart from one under the hifi which I'm pretty sure is hooked into the (after market, non functioning) alarm.
On sucking the brains of a local(ish) LR mechanic when I first got it ... his first comment was "Oh ****, it's an '85".
Wishing you luck.
Johnny.
