I think if it was going to learn it would have done so by now and at least your LUC is locked when it is supposed to be.
More info here about resetting the adaptions but I am not sure it actually works but up to you if you want to try........

I'll take a read tomorrow but have to admit I'm wary about doing anythjng that may void the warranty. I've got too much to do over the next week or so to faff about but the ' just bloody sort it' phone call to Caledonian is getting closer and closer.

Addit: Just seen it's non -invasive so will do it tomorrow.

Another possibly pointless question but when you have the vibration does your rev counter needle bounce or fluctuate at all ?
I think you would benefit from somebody with diagnostics such as the faultmate that can read what your solenoids and transmission outputs are and know how to interpret the results.
If you could get hold of Bemble / RRPhil and tell him your symptoms he would probably rattle of a list of things to try and in what order.
The thing that puzzles me about yours is the vibration after the LUC locks which I have read elsewhere but cannot find a reason why..

Andy, no bounce or fluctuation. I have a good, switched on auto-electrician, whose Mum lives 3 doors away, on speed dial, so will get a hold of him.
I'll try pm'ing @Bemble or @RRPhil and get a list. I need this damn thing sorted, not least because I can't take the dog to hydrotherapy in the Volvo, it defeats the purpose of taking her for physio!

The mechanic at Gibsons explained the vibration on lock up as probaly to do with the TC being slighly off balance and moving in an elliptical, rather than smooth circular fashion
Thanks again for trying to help :)

That's all i could think of was something still wrong with the damper or clutch face of the torque converter not sitting centrally as after it is locked it is a direct drive but you have replaced the torque converter again unless the place that is refurbishing them isn't doing a great job as we said a few pages back, you could always try a brand new TC...

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy elsewhere, what a fine chest you have.;):D:D

Dear Parents

Sadly I find the need to write to you today about Tomcat59alan. He has usually been such a good boy but lately I find him constantly slacking. His attendance is dropping, with poor excuse of 'busy elsewhere'. When he is here his responses are not of the expected standard. Even when presented with a picture of my favourite drawers, the best he could reference is my chest. Whilst my drawers are not the smallest the other boys can still see they are not a chest. This is a very worrying problem. I can only help him so much, but when he misses such easy targets, one has to wonder. I can only think that his extra-curricular activities, such as cross-dressing and eyebrow shaping are impacting on his normal studies.
If this sort of failing continues I will have no choice but to stop allowing him to hang around holidaychicken before he brings him down too. Which would be a shame as I know they loooooove playing with each other. I mean really love playing with each other.

Kind regards

Goldie

Its true, I mean really true. You will have to forgive me Goldie but I'm a chest man not a drawers man :D It's my eyes you know, I should have listened to my Mother. XX

Ok boys play time over for a little while. Two things to report, I did the reset as described but havent done enough miles for anything to happen , if its going to. Other thing is, since she came back , I am getting an intermittent , very obvious vibration in reverse. Could they be related? Or is the Golden Girl wanting even more money spent on her?
Waits patiently for the troops to rally, led ably by Ant ;)

And you say I'm late posting, :p Does the 322 have harmonic dampers on the diff's like the P38? If so are they there?

No dampers fitted to the L322.....

In reverse Clutches LBC and CR are used.....check the chart attached.....

If you only get vibration in reverse, then the only clutch that is bespoke to reverse is CR...as LBC is used in First gear also.

Lock Up Clutch is not active in reverse.

Thanks Ant. The other vibrations persist but the reverse gear one is almost like being in a giant blender.

I hope Andy won’t mind me chipping in on the subject of adaption resetting for the transmission controller?

A sort of ‘urban legend’ has developed over time (probably via the BMW forums) that the adaptions for the transmission can be ‘reset’ by the driver using a combination of throttle inputs and ignition key turns when stationary with the engine off.

All that happens when this procedure is followed is that the controller temporarily selects its ‘sporty driver’ classification for adaptive control. This is forgotten as soon as the ignition is turned off.

For the 5HP24 transmission, the only long-term adaptions permanently stored in the transmission controller relate to improving shift quality over the lifetime of the vehicle through adaptive pressure control i.e. by adjusting the clutch hydraulic pressures to maintain shift times, to account for transmission wear.

Clearly therefore you really don’t want to clear these adaptions unless the transmission is replaced with a new one.

Although I see plenty of references to the long-term adaption being reset for the GM 5L40-E and ZF 6HP26 transmissions I have never seen anything written about whether/how it can be done for the ZF 5HP24 transmission in the L322. Certainly BlackBox Solutions said it couldn’t be done with their Faultmate diagnostic tool. I’d love to know if this feature is available in TestBook/T4, if anyone has any knowledge of this? The BMW guys seem to be able to do it for their vehicles (using the BMW diagnostic tool) which use the same Bosch controller and very similar control code i.e. GS 8.60.2 rather than GS 8.60.1

The temporary adaptive features (which, I emphasize again, clear themselves each time the ignition is turned off) are based on driver influence and environmental factors. The driver influence is determined from such things as rate of application of the throttle, severity of braking, frequency of kickdown requests, etc. and the environmental ones are based upon things like wheel slip (indicating icy/winter conditions), stop-starting (traffic), performance (uphill/trailer detection), etc. etc.

(and sorry, I realise this thread is primarily about the GM 5L40-E and not the ZF 5HP24, but any excuse to mention it :))
