By the way i happen to have exactly the same winch and mount set-up. The H12 and really heavy duty winch tray.

I dug out the receipt from when the previous owner fitted it new. and apparently the mount is called a 'TOWNSEND WINCH MOUNT' although nothing comes up on google. Guess it probably used to be a small metalwork business or something a few years ago, maybe had links to mile marker as yours is the only other one i've seen?

Anyway it wasn't cheap. Cost £145 in 2001 and along with the H12 and fitting kit came to over 1300!! Its a very very good bit of kit, mine will probably outlive my 90.

cheers Nick glad you enjoyed it, yeah I've seen how much the winches are new but as you say the bumper seems not to be a common one. I'm not a fan of it really and keep looking for something to replace it with but not found one i like yet ;)

yep same here not the prettiest thing! Its not great that it sits so high ontop of the bumper over the grill aswell. Im always on the lookout for a nice 'normal' winch bumper local to me on fleebay. Then i think some nice synthetic rope and an ali fairlead will complement the H12 nicely :cool:

thanks buddy only just seen this, good to hear people think I've done a good job :D

anyway a year has passed plenty of problems along the way but hey its still a land rover :p its now got its second mot in my ownership another well praised and complimentary mot tester, they seem amazed to see how solid the chassis is for its age.

cheers pal, yeah I'm surprised how well the paints done I've tried scratching it off and its adhered well only issue was the one hot day in the summer :roll eyes: the fabric stretched and left four white unpainted bits underneath the diagonal strip but they soon disappeared once it cooled down.

Ok so not updated this for a while, after a sucessful albeit a bit noisy trip down to billing on sunday i made the decision……………………………….




So he's getting an overdrive :cool::cool::cool:



and before people pipe up about a disco transfer box being cheaper, this wasn't a quick decision but ultimately the rover drive was the outcome.



weather permitting ill fit it tomorrow and take some pictures of the finished article and how it performs :D

One of the best things I've bought for my 110.

2000 mile round trip to the alps last year was a lot more relaxed with it fitted. Couldn't imagine not having it now :)

yes the box reassured me of it being a quality product, if they go to the measures of making a ply box to ship it in it must be good :p unfortunately fitting is off for today rain has stopped play :mad: forecast good for tomorrow though so all being well progress will be made :D
 
No excuses today, awoke to sunshine so got on with it.
bigger job than first thought didn't realise the tunnel had to be removed, to take this out first the pedal lock and matting had to be removed and that took longer than planned but once removed it made the fitting a lot easier



overdrive input gear on the left and the standard input gear on the right (support bearing removed and pressed onto new gear)



shifter mechanism fixed into place,



overdrive unit installed and topped up with oil,



one successful test run and final assembly later its complete,



and pleased to say I'm very impressed with the results its smooth to engage easily reached (i feared the position of the lever would be awkward) and most importantly dropped the sound levels to a level where i don't even have to adjust the radio volume when joining dual carriageways, may even go as far as to say to a level where civilised conversions can be had. so all round impressed with the results and looking forward to putting some miles on it. :D:cool::p

Glad you got it installed ok.

Mine was a bit noisy for the first few thousand miles but now its nice and quiet. Makes motorway stuff much better and if I'm not towing I sometime leave it engaged from first. Pulls away in first no problems.

got a bit more done today started off by fitting the wings as now the engine is doing what it should, then spent some time fitting the top rad mounts as they needed further mods to clear the mounting pins then fitted the slam panel and front followed by the bonnet and its beginning to resemble a 90 again. :high5:

fitted the sills and bottom door seal the other weekend, only done the oneside once all the panels are retested (got some hardtop panels on there way and all being well another set of doors tomorrow) ill remove the roof and turn it around so i can complete the work on the other side (against the garage wall at the minute.

then got a little more done on the back door, the top needs more trimming then going to get some ali angle to cap the bottom, fitted a gas ram to open and hold the door up mounted on some simple brackets.

Hi Sam- Awesome job. I'm thinking of doing this sort of split for my tailgate. How did it work out for you in the end? do you have any tips for someone following in your footsteps?
