So i'm just looking at my D2 V8.....read up alot on slipped liners etc and so forth but cabt make up my mind if my engine shot!
Can just about feel the slightest of lips with my nail, but its all 4 cylinders on drivers side bank. I havent checked other side yet but am wondering if thats the way it was made? Theres no hammer marks in head gasket or head as if the liner was trying to beat its way out. But centre 6 head bolts weren't very tight, in fact i'd say they werent doing much clamping at all.

What made you suspect a slipped liner in the first place, presumably before you took the heads off?
 
Liners should be perfectly flush.
Is it a late Thor? If so, there should be a step at the bottom of the liner that LR added to supposedly stop the liners dropping. Trouble is, the liners were not properly seated in production meaning there were gaps between the liner & bottom step. In time the liners give way & start to slip. I had a minute step on 1 liner when my heads came off in 2012, no movement apparent but 2 years later it was tapping away & eating into the gasket fire ring.
 
Well the head gasket blew on that bank at end of 2013. So I stripped heads off and had them skimmed.

Rebuilt engine and all was well again, but then end of 2014 the same gasket failed in exact same way. It has always had a exhaust pfft which I have yet to find the source, but taking the heads off this time I noticed the step.
As you can see there isn't any noticeable damage to the HG fire ring. Maybe Im just panicking!!!!

May (I did say may) be a little late for this advice, given your other replies, but a slipped liner is identified by a metallic 'tap' occurring at piston speed as the engine warms up from a cold start. Not to confused with tappet noise, which is not only a different speed but is normally audible from start-up.
 
The 'noise' I had/have is audible from a cold start so Im sure that's an exhaust chuff from somewhere (maybe a split manifold?) but as yet I haven't looked.

After noticing the slight gap I've kinda walked away from it in disgust!!!!

Maybe I'm not looking at the pic correctly. Your not to far away from me iv just done my HGS on my v8 maybe I can swing buy and have a proper look

Going to put it back together sunday and see what happens lol
