Hi guys

On Saturday just gone i replaced my noisy power steer pump ( 2.5td-defender 200tdi ) anyway i bled the system as discribed in the haynes bible but whilst bleeding it i soon realised i didn't have enough oil with only 2.3ish ltrs of fluid put in and still had loads of air coming out of the bleed nipple so switch off engine and walked over to my local motorist shop for another couple of ltrs of ATF fluid, must have been away no more than 15-20 mins came back started the engine ( still hot ) topped up the power steer oil and undid the bleed nipple and let it run for a couple of sec's and nothing but pure fluid came out with no bubbles retightend the nipple topped up the fluid again and everything seemed ok.

anyway as i work Sundays and son uses the landy for work he checks the levels every Sunday and noticed the power steer fluid was low and no leaks so he topped up the fluid and went out in the landy only to find at some point a few drips of ATF on the floor opened the bonnet and found fluid coming out of the top of the fluid resorvier.

does this sound like there is still air in the system as i am off tomorrow and son can't go to work so we will both give it a bleed and see how we get on.

what do you think :(

i never bleed them they dont need it the box has a return pipe for any air to be expelled back to reservoir a few lock to locks should rid all air unless pump is sucking any in

+1, lift the front wheels and turn lock to lock a few times with the engine running, power steering is self bleeding, it'll look pink and frothy for a while so check the fluid levels after a couple of hours

Well i have not had chance to look at it yet as i have come down with the squirt's

but as son couldn't get into work today he has had a look underneath and found the pump leaking at the seal so a complaint is going to ebay

so we are stuck now, but are the paddocks britpart ones worth getting :)

At least they're guaranteed if nothing else, don't know the manufacturer but Craddocks are cheaper

Was it one of the ebay recon ones where you return your existing pump, or just a straight sell?

No i was trying to avoid that idea too much messing about no i bought a new one off ebay but looking at it it looks old stock to me, after i fitted it and was bleeding it i kept checking it to make sure it wasn't leaking at the seal and it wasn't so obviously when driving the landy it must of started leaking i mite get a lift and chance a paddocks one :)

Sorted, decided to take the plunge and get a britpart one from paddocks not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but i don't have any leaks and the steering is great.

son is giving it a test tomorrow as he is on a course for work in b/ham so hopefully everything should be ok :D
