Hi all , I found a blue power box chip thingy on a diesel t reg rr ,Blown head gasket... Any who its stripped to the bone ,no ecu or any other electrical bits ,but it does have an egr and a maf ,, so and this is the question would it work on my 2000 dse or is there a definable difference to look for on the pumps ,wiring ,ect :D

Yes it will work, there are two types of blue boxes pre egr and egr so on a 2000 with egr go for it how much are they after for it.

Is your car a manual? Think you have to be careful with chipping an auto.
Aye  gearboxes, cylinder head gaskets ...I might not fit it:rolleyes: but i am curious to how different it might be to drive ,Mine is an auto and quick as quick as a 4 liter which i only just pulled away from,,,Not race ing u under stand ,,, ;)On a private road called the A9,,:D:D:D and no visible chip under the bonnet .The rr that the chip is ,was on Was a Manuel gearbox with a cooked head:eek: There might be a clue there,;)

Very valid point Alan. Mine is chipped on the ECU and if required can catch pigeons.
Mmmm, pigeon breast poached in cranberry juice. Remove breasts and add cranberry jelly to thicken the sauce. Serve with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. More recipes available on demand, Paul Hollywood is my love child,

Could be ,n adding the blue powerbox chip would be pointless or it would fry something ...

I might risk a chip but I'd be wary of a powerbox. All a powerbox does is fool the ECU into throwing more fuel in all the time. IMO that head is already close to its limit. Extra fuel across the whole range, in my somewhat limited knowledge it has to be admitted, could cause different heat characteristics across the head causing early failure. Quite a few of the cooked ones on here had a box connected. Chipping done properly should be fine as BMW had different profiles so it can take a bit more in the right place.

The gearbox is another issue if it is an auto, of course.

I didn't replace my superchip its now in the shed, I find its ok without it, shame really someone could probably do with using it

Is it just the chip and needs soldering in or a complete ecu, wouldn't mind seeing if there is much difference between chip and box.

The chip. The ECU just unplugs. There are 2 chips ... or is it 3? Cannot remember. 2, I think. You could always solder a chip holder thing in and then you can swap over at will. The original chips are 1 write only. You can leave the security feature off so it won't immobilise itself but I've got a feeling it stops you reading certain settings or something.

You're near Heathrow. @Dopey's mate, Max, is near there. He's got all the stuff and I'm sure he'd do you a good price if you pulled the ECU and went round with Dopey. I'd like a chip with the original settings myself, just as backup!

I think its just plug and play, its the one in the engine bay, got it from superchip

I kept my old chip in case I wanted to put it back to what it was, it wasn't soldered in

I should have said soz..... the box the super chip was in I replaced, so I think the new box also had a chip in it (not sure, but it seems like it might have) so I have the box with the super chip in it in the shed and the original chip still
