The main advantage of the FL2 over the FL1 is that it can pulse the brakes quicker, thus allowing betterer control of spinning tyres or on loose surface. The electronics has advanced so you can select snow mode (several different modes available) for example which reduces the power output so you don't spin wheels when pulling away. Also reduces sharpness of brakes whem applying them. this sort of thing can be done manually in any car if your a good driver. Auto's have more gears. Not sure about manuals. Diesels are newer and cleaner/faster/higher power. Auto is very smooth - as it should be. Ride is far more comfortable. Wobble and suspensin control is better. General feel of the vehicle is betterer. so is nerior/road holding/ride. FL2 prices are high as they're popular. Most sales are for the GS or HSE. not so much the S or XS. GS has the best value for money set-up. Full leather interior interior inside is popular and holder it's price betterer. Add on toys are eggspensive. Check you have a full spare wheel + tyre.

The beauty of the new system is that it can be fully automatic....
2wd for normal use, auto 2/4wd for dodgy conditions and locked 4wd for when yu really need it. Best of all worlds :). And a lot quicker than moving a lever.
 
If I remember correctly the FL2 system also selects 4x4 mode so you can pull away to reduce front wheel spin. Nice.
 
X trail is selectable gaylander two int. But freelanders seem better in almost every way.

My wife and I are expecting our first born and my current car is not well suited to heavily pregnant women or babies!

We are thinking about getting a Freelander and over on the Audi forms we regularly get potential owners linking to cars requesting some feedback from the people in the know!

I have my eye on the following: AutoTrader

It has 12 Months MOT and the service history is part Landover with the last service being a specialist garage. 1 owner from new and nothing dodgy in the history (apart from the private plate changes). The cost looks comparable to other similar models tho would brining the seller down closer to the 14K mark be too much?

I'm quite new to Landy's & my first d. Plenty of general exp with petrol engined cars though. Owned our FL2 TD4s now for around 6 months. Bought from dealer with 62k on the clock with fsh. Also came with landy's select used car warranty for 6 months (not worth having).
It's not been a trouble free motor by a long shot, but with previous DIY mechanical experience I have sorted most issues myself.
Have had 5 problems within the 6 months of ownership. Clogged fuel filter, replaced cheaply, now A1. Leaky rear hatch brake cluster, took it out & re-sealed by myself. Squeaky gear stick operation, oiled linkage, all good. Intermittent problem with front drivers side electric window. Has been OK now for the last 2 months. Now need a front wheel bearing (drivers side), have to replace front hub. Will have this replaced at next MOT at local independent garage.
Have averaged 32mpg over the last 5k, mainly short journeys.
I've not gave up on the landy. Going to keep it a while longer, think I've now just about ironed out most of the problems (I hope).
I’m certainly impressed by the over taking power, once your out of 1st & 2nd gear. Really enjoyed using it over the winter.
