Hi there,i am seriously thinking of trading in the small family diesel and getting a 90 csw.Including trade in i would have about 9k to spend. What could i expect for that amount?.I know the diesel costs would go up with a bang but what mpg could i expect for trips mainly around town with the occassional longer trip? What are the general running/maintenance costs like?.Any help would be great.

Do you regularly carry more than 2 people? If so, you'd be better off looking at a 110. Options for seating arrangements in the back of a 90 are pretty restrictive - especially if you have children.

Coz you LACK stupidity you wont get flamed.......well not by me:D;)

If you get an early TD5, you can expect 24 ish around town, 30 ish on runs, depending how fast you drive it. If you pay for a service at a garage, anything from £200 for a small job to about £450 for a bigger one (before any bits being fixed etc) New tyres anything from about £80 a tyre to £170 fitted each, tax for my 2002 is about £245 a year at the moment. insurance for me is about £450.

Im guessing you have driven one before, so you know they are noisy, slow, potentially cramped depending on your size etc etc

I've had a Td5 90 and 300Tdi 110, with respects to fuel economy the Td5 did 26 regardless of what you were doing, no matter what loads it was carrying or how fast you went (although it had a multitude of problems - being an earlier version of the Td5).

The 300Tdi's has 14.5k put on it since mid-May and I've yet to have it drop below 26mpg. While working in Guildford in the summer I was doing ~65 on the way down to work and ~75 on the way back and still didn't drop below 26.

Haven't had to do much to do to it - new shocks (~£75 for all 4), a A-frame ball-joint (~£12) and water pump gasket (£1). I have had it serviced though and that, at Surrey prices, was £380.

With regards to tyres I'd highly recommend BFG A/Ts - they're about £130 (last time I got some) but last ridiculously long. The shortest mileage we've got out of any set has been 65k which actually means they're relatively cheap in the long-run.

Insurance is the biggie for me having been involved in an accident over the summer and 22. But for what I use it for it's not prohibitive.
