I was planning to do some of Europe this summer, so depending on work, I'd love to tag along!

I will probably be very last minute, as it depends on if I get my def 110 in shape ready for long journeys :p

Good ideia guys, Portugal is a great place for laning without all the troubles like in the UK and evil looks, don't forget to have a go at the local food and wine you will be amazed how nice it is.

Prepare the Landy for some hot temperatures can easy reach 42c inland with no wind and lots of dust, it's part of the fun after all, lol

I have followed quite a trips to Portugal recently seems to be popular, the cost of travel puts me off.

After all I'm from Portugal and this week taking a few friends from UK for some laning no landies only Nissan Patrol's available :(

Well at least they won't break down :D

I'm really looking forward to it, have done a road trip to marbella a couple of times, but never in a 90 and never off road!

I have started getting parts ready, inc a complete set of radiator hoses. Had a new radiator just before Christmas so cooling hopefully won't be an issue.

We have bought a gopro so I am going to try to video as much as I possibly can.

The cost is a lot, but my Tesco club card points are paying for a good proportion of the Chunnel.

I won't personally won't be having too many problems with dust as I'm doing the navigating!

James, I was going to suggest that someone does a bit of a video diary to record our trip. Looks like you've just volunteered for the job, and you'll have 72 cans of cold on board - smart.

Hi, I'm from Albufeira when I lived there I was driving Jeep Safari for years and do know quite a bit of portugal on many trips, you will have a great time.

Watch out to the local police (GNR) and the sneaky speed traps not the most polite out there.

I'm flying out tomorrow with friends for some laning.

We are still at 3 confirmed vehicles, anyone else out there interested?

Meeting place still 20th June at 'Coja' central Portugal.

However, two of us should be meeting around the 'Tours' area of
France on the 17th June for the drive down.

And diesel France, Spain and Portugal is less than £1 per litre now.

I didn't know that. Awesome!

Yes, the value of the euro going down the toilet helps.
Just like the UK, supermarket fuel is significantly cheaper than motorway fuel, and Spain is usually the cheapest country of the three.

James, have a look at camping Le Bounty Lakes just south of Le Mans. Looks like a smaller site but with the facilities. Does your set up need electric hook up?

And have you found that passport?

Yep, my passport was in my scanner, obviously! Sadly it expires in May, so I need to renew it. Though I have done it online and only need to send off a pic and declaration, so there is less chance for error.

That campsite looks nice. Nope, we don't need an electric hookup, hopefully the leisure battery will be enough to keep everything going over night.

I need to get some euros bought too.

My leisure battery ran through the night running my fridge, found that because of all the temp changes you get in Morocco in one day, often you will pull out frozen coke and beer slushies, so I often switched it off at night, could have been anal and kept increasing and decreasing the thermostat knob to compensate, but I can't be arsed to remember.

Those fridges stay cold for hours with no power.

Excellent. Glad you've found the passport as I think that you need the Queen's mother's signature in triplicate to get a new passport if you declare the old one lost or stolen.

I have emailed camping Le Bounty and they are open and we do no need to book, so shall we make this or meeting place on Wednesday 17th June?
We will be arriving there the previous day so will have sussed out all the essential information ie where the bar is.

As MrNasty says, a night without power should be no issue for your fridge. Plus I'm guessing that it will contain a fair ullage of chilled liquid which will keep it cool anyway.

I too need to get some Euros but usually get cash from cash points. I know the rate may not be the best possible but it's easy.

I normally get cash using my tesco credit card online, as it is normally one the best rates. I probably won't take that much and use my credit card for fuel.

I posted my passport yesterday so should hopefully get it back with loads of time to spare. Fingers crossed...

Yes, that sounds like a good idea for a meeting place, I imagine we will get there for about 5ish, but will let you know closer to the time. We will also book a space on the 17th then.

Yup, there will be plenty of beer, got to keep the fridge full, can't have it clanging around can we? :D

Are you planning on taking any stuff to have a BBQ?

Sorry James, I had some finger trouble with my previous post, we do not need to book, just turn up.
We won't be taking food to BBQ with us, we will buy it at a local supermarket. As a guess we will be eating at the restaurant on the first night and doing a BBQ on the following day when you arrive.

Ok, so we might bring food with us, then if it doesn't matter if we are a bit late.

We don't mind eating out though if you want to, we are easy :)

Where are we best stocking up on beer? Is Calais best?

Looks like a negator for myself as it stands. I've been put on an exercise for 6 weeks at batuk but work has a habit of changing who goes on these exercises. So if it does change it'll be very last minute.com

James, buy the beer in Spain, way cheaper than France. We bought slabs of beer at 5.49 euro from Spanish supermarkets to take to Morocco, we ran out on day 6 but that's another story.
