I have a freelander 1 TD4 which starts first time but then runs badly and wont rev more than 1500 rpm until the the temp gauge gets to about half way and then the power comes in and it runs perfectly!
Is this a common problem and can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this. Could it be the MAF sensor or anything to do with the egr?

That particular fault isn't common, but running faults in on the TD4 are (BMW garbage).

With power issues, you really need to check everything carefully, starting with the vacuum pipes, and move on from there.;)

Thanks for your reply. As far as I can see the vacuum pipes all look to be in good order

The vacuum pipes can be deceptive, as they're covered in a cotton gauze. This hides cracks and leaks very well, so the pipes often perish from the inside, unseen. It's a wise precaution to replace every vacuum pipe in the engine bay, which isn't difficult or expensive, as you'll only need a couple of metres of 3.2mm vacuum pipe, IIRC.
;)

I believe they are 4mm replaced a few lately with silicones.
