I don't regret for a second switching over to my Disco from my Mercedes W203 but I do miss the door podlights for when I get out in the dark to light up the ground where you step out. I also miss the courtesy lights (front headlights and road lights) that would stay on for around a minute to light the way while you found your way into your house.

These features (while being minor) were very helpful and I was wondering is there any way I could set up my Disco 2 to do the same? I know the podlights are just a matter of cutting into the bottom of the door, fitting the lights and wiring it in to the door switch but what about the courtesy lights? Has anyone done this before, is it even possible? It'll be a garage job for sure as i'm nowhere near experienced as you guys obviously but it would make life for myself and my wife a lot better when we get home as we live in a rural area and there's no street lighting whatsoever.

Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to offer help/advice.

Puddle lights is as simple as you describe, and the D2 already has tge courtesy headlight function. If you keep your finger on the lock button for a few seconds when locking the car they should come on. If not, the function just needs activating with a diagnostic machine such as nanocom or hawkeye. ( there is others too ).

Brilliant, many many thanks my friend. I did search first but didn't come across anything so thought i'd ask. Where would I go for one of these diagnostic machines to get it switched on?

Put your location up and there might be someone close to you. I'd gladly do it for you if your close enough.

Re: The Disco 1: I have a 1995/96 auto diesel.

Question: Does anyone know if there is wiring already inside the D1 doors ready for connecting up the lights ? or does one have to wire all the way back to the main wiring loom in the dash somewhere to pick up the timed inside courtesy lights ?

No a door loom is required, but then it's only two wires.
Yes to pick up the supply.

Have you tried you locking button because i know mine works when i hold the lock button

Yeah I tried that and it didn't work :( Quite surprised as it has all the toys (fully loaded the bloke I bought it off said).

I've a feeling i'm going to regret telling you this but we have a pet sheep (Steve) that likes to curl up right at the side (practically underneath) the Landy during the nights and there's been a few times I haven't seen him and nearly driven off with him under it. Besides that with the dark mornings and having to take my son to the train station at 5.30am it would be a really big help instead of fumbling my way through the dark.

Thanks for the help chaps, it's really appreciated. I have a few little faults that need rectifying and hopefully, through asking on here, i'll be able to fix some of them myself. Top forum this fair play.

That's the ones I had my eyes on funny enough. Now all I need to do is find a nice set of maplights that will blend in with the interior and source a set of those affordable damned mug holders everyone holds you to ransom for and i'm sorted.

I found on my Swiss spec LHD facelift V8 (got to be precise, it seems every vehicle out of the factory is unique...) that I needed an extra relay in the interior fuse box, which enabled both DRL and the courtesy headlights. Pre-facelift apparently have this built-in, but the fusebox changed and with it the fitment of the relay.
