I'd look bloody hard at the drop links, you changed all the pricier stuff, drop links are only about £20 and seem to need replacing on every second hand car.

Ok everyone thanks for all the ideas of things to check will let you know what i find.
I did find a mention of shock absorbers on here when i was looking for help before but cant seem to find the thread again.Could the rotational part at the top turret cause such noise ?

I'd say Drop Links, especially with the cold weather. Cheap Drop Links last only a couple of months before knocking, still look like they are fine but just enough play to get that loud knock around the wheel arch area inside the car.

I changed mine twice with cheap ones which failed in months, good quality ones last a lot longer.

Well thanks to everyone for their help on here.Replaced the drop links and tis cured.Even though they looked pretty new the upper ball joint on one side was slack as a bag of knackers.

Well this is turning out to be an ongoing saga.
Having replaced most of the front suspension have had noise free motoring for 3 months.
Its Back.
Got underneath only to find the rubber gaitors on both 3 month old drop links was shot ( and i didnt buy the cheapest ones). So replaced them again to no avail the knocking is still there.Checked all bolts no prob there including the top shock mounts so once again i am stumped.
to recap i have replaced both wishbones and associated bushes, arb bushes and droplinks,.The arb is centered the plastic clips to stop it moving lateraly are still there.
What do i look at next?

Did you say only when turning? (cant bothered to go back to page 1 lol) ifso could be uv joint had a similar issue on an old old astra long time ago and it had thrown a ball bearing out from the uv..

Hmm if its fubared yr drop links that quickly are yr shocks and springs all ok? (without being patronising lol) did you fit them yrself ang did it right? Cant remember if their handed or not now, i fitted cheaper ones about 18mnths ago and mjne are still good.
Have you checked engine and gearbox/diff mounts..

Its the rubber gaiters on the links that have perished the actual ball joints dont seem too slack but as they were no longer sealed thought i should replace them asap.Gear box mount is new (3 months ) shocks and spings seem ok on bounce test.As far as i am aware the drop links arnt handed and i am pretty sure i fitted them ok.

What sort of clunk / noise is it? How frequent only bumps pot holes etc?
Something tells me mine were handed or had a top and bottom that was easy to get them upsidedown
Is yr batery secure? Toolkit under bonnet secure etc?

Yeah they have a top and bottom you cant get them wrong.Been thorough all the obvious like bat etc.
It is only on pot holes etc and we have plenty of those in west yorkshire occasionally on speed humps but mainly when near side hits a pothole.
Its not a heavy duty clunk or bang its difficult to describe as i dont drive the car often ,a nice big d1 200tdi is my daily drive.

Sound like when i lost the retaini g clips on my old motors brake pads same symptoms..

There was a thread on here recently regarding fitting a liftkit where someone's exhaust had been fitted wrongly and was interfering with the track rod maybe is a common wrong doing?

Are these new droplinks from same place batch? Maybe its a faulty batch..

Will investigate further on fouling other things. As for the drop links the first set were Q Drive the new ones are FAI as someone on here recommended.
