Yes. But I’m assuming there are 2 part numbers. 1 for sensor appropriate to the original pick up ring and another one that must be slightly different as the newer pick up ring sits closer to the crank?
Did you not ask from the supplier you got your ring from ?

Can they not tell which sensor to obtain ?
I don't think you can get the original.

You have to replace it with the new one and changed pulley.

I presume the OP asked for a timing ring for Freelander 2 and got what he asked for as it the only 1 available. Who ever sold it, didn't realise that to fit the early engines it needs some other bits to go with it.

It sounds like the sensors fail with alarming regularity, so I should think the sensors are purchased all the time, but the rings not very often.

Exactly that. My pick up ring was a mess with multiple areas where the outer edge had chunks missing. I have the later style pulley and pick up ring and I think now I have the correct part number for the CPS

Another update. So I’ve fitted the new trigger wheel and a Bosch sensor that says is equivalent to part number LR000681 and I’ve fitted the correct later pulley.

She still doesn’t start. I put the Noid Bulb back on the injector loom and no sign of signal.

I could really do with a scan tool that shows me live data so if anyone has any good suggestions let me know.

Ps

When I removed the crank pulley bolt I did not put the timing pins in. Now in my head at the time I thought the timing wouldn’t move as it was on a key way but I’m being told this can put the timing out enough that the ECU won’t let the injectors fire. So another job I may have to do is retime the engine?

If the timing was out, wouldn't it still fire the injectors?

Tbh personally I’m not sure however it has been mentioned that timing being slightly off can prevent injectors firing

Hi folks. I’ve still got the same non start issue. I’ll provide an update of what we’ve tried. The pick up ring was badly worn with bits on the outside of the ring missing. I’ve got a new ring and we’ve temporarily made up a spacer so the new ring lines up with the CPS. Plugging in to the car didn’t with diagnostics bring up anything specific other than the MAP sensor. We cleared the codes and started again.

The fuel pressure seemed very low. We cracked off the nut from the fuel pump to rail and assuming it’s high pressure when we crank the car it should have been blasting out, it didn’t, it was more like a tiny trickle.

I have read that the transfer pump can play up so have put in 20L so she’s showing just under 1/2 tank now. She cranks and cranks but there is no sign of life. Brake cleaner direct to the intake will start her. Other than that she’s dead. I’m really struggling.

Any advice or tips greatly appreciated 😓
