Hi guys. I recently found out it was not leaking from the silicone hose but the plastic pipe over it. That goes to the air filter. Is this normal?

I presume we are talking about a FL2 if so, wipe out the pipe with a rag, then clean all the area with engine cleaner degreaser, or carb cleaner, then when you refit the rubber part use a jubilee clip instead of the spring clip as they are useless.

Yes sorry it's fl2. I just did that. But is it normal? And another thing. I just can't get my consumption below 0.8 litre per 10 km? Is this normal. I try to drive as economic as possible but it just won't. I even have got it chipped by a pro. It's seems to be gentle on consumption on 1, 2 and 3 gear. Around 6.9 litre. But on it'd freeway. In 4 gear and up it's between 8 and 10?
 
Quick conversion to put into terms UK people will understand, 0.8 litre=0.176 gallons. 10 km=6.21 miles. so 6.21/0.176=35 MPG.
Doesn't sound brilliant but not unreasonable

Thank you for the conversion:) but it's the same after i chipped it. I even blinded the egr and deleted it from the "brain. But I guess it's normal for a Ford engine. I had a 1.4 fiesta before this car and that little car also was thirsty. But is it something to do about it ? I was thinking to remove the diesel particular filter in the summer time.

Why do you think chipping it will make it use less fuel? These modifications increase performance, so more fuel is added, which has to be at the expense of economy.:confused:

The FL2 weighs the same as 2 Fiestas, so it's going to use more fuel. I don't think 35 Mpg is bad, considering the car is heavy and shaped like a brick.:eek:

Actually it used the same amount as the fiesta. Not more. The reason i used the fiesta as am example is that fl2 is a ford engine. And they seem to be bad at fuel economy:()

It's pretty common knowledge that most Cars is under tuned because of eu regulations. IN short Therm, the engine is stroked down because of pullution not because of speed. I have chipped all my cars because i want more power and less consumption. The reason why that is a fact is you don't have to push the gas pedal far down to get more speed and that equal less diesel used;)

HA ha. Good one. But if you think the government try reduce environment pullution by tax rules, I know the fact for my government to do s,o is only to get Moore money in the bank. If you want to save the earth you should start with China:)

Not quite sure why you find that amusing?
Think about it. Getting to a certain speed involves overcoming the resistance of the tyres, mechanical resistance, wind resistance and the inertia of the vehicle. It will burn the same amount of fuel, irrespective of how much power you have on tap.
The only likely result of having more power is that you will drive faster.

The Chinese are doing a lot to deal with environmental issues. We all need to do our bit. Including you. And me.

I don't know where you read your news. But I do my part for environment by recycling etc. Regarding my chipping, I did that manly to get lower fuel=environment friendlier. Anyway im not here to discuss green life. AND if you are here to hug trees, I guess it's better sites out these for you

I think your chip is not working for you. Compared to the size of the L322 and a so called economical chip on yours it is certainly not working.

Suggest you look deeper into your setup/ engine.
A FL2 is an aerodynamic shaped brick compared to the L322.

Thanks. Yeah I have considered that the chipping set up is wrong. But it's from a very known manufacturer from Germany Im not remember the name of now. So that's why I thought it could have something to with this greasy pipes. Maby Turbo problems or something else?
 
I would check out the whole engine and it has to be 100% before even considering a chip.

Ask them for the maps comparison and look, but if you don’t understand it will all be gobbledygook to you. It is a dark art and to be honest there are a lot of claims out there that are not true.

I find your points of view contradictory if I'm honest. You said you do your bit for the environment, but then were thinking about removing the DPF, which will only increase particulates emmited by the exhaust. And you said that you chip cars to increase MPG, because manufacturers don't do all they can to reduce fuel consumption? Which is total crap.:confused:

The fact is. A diesel engine will burn more fuel to make more power, regardless of who made the engine. A diesel can't use less fuel, and make more power, it's impossible, one has a direct relationship to the other. The only way to increase fuel economy, is to minimise losses, be them through reducing speed, or drag or a combination of both. Now if you want power, then fine, but you can't have power and economy, as it just doesn't happen like that.
Of course chipping the ECU also makes the vehicle no longer comply with the emission standard it met when it was new, which means it's more polluting, now how green is that.:eek: This is why more countries are now making modifications to vehicles emmision systems illegal, so they're now failing vehicle worthiness tests, and it's not for collecting "Green Taxes".

I don't know if my country is different regarding taxes on cars than yours. But is well known here that the manufacturer need to reduce power just to Dodge a certain tax level. And that means in most that cars originally with a certain amount of power get reduced only for that fact alone. Why do you think vw have cheated with this and many others got caught after this was known.
Is it so hard to understand that if you have moore power, or as i like to call it "the right amount. You won't need to push your gas pedal so hard for your car to accelerate.
IN the dark world of chipping you usually get 3 options. Step 1 is only for economic, step 2 is manly moore bhp combined with lower fuel consumption. And 3 is just for as much power you can get, but that equals new and bigger turbo etc..

Vehicle tax in the UK doesn't work like that. Tax is banded on emissions of the vehicle. If you want a powerful vehicle, you can have one, but you pay more tax.

And the cheating software used by many manufacturers did not reduce power. It actually caused the vehicle to operate differently while on test. At other times, the performance of the vehicle was as normal.

I still wonder where you got your news from. It's strange when I had a newer vw caddy that was one of the millions of cars that needed a new program installed. And my car dealer was open and honest with me that i will loose 15 bhp and see a minor increase in fuel. This have resulted many new car owners to take them to court. As they wanted to use regret right on the car. For me it was a company car so it was not end of the world. But as a private owner I would have joined the people in court.
