Hi all, I have recently become the proud owner of my first ever Landrover (Disco 1 300tdi Auto) and am currently carrying out a fairly extensive underside rebuild. Done most of the jobs that I needed to do but have hit a small hurdle. Whilst carrying out an autobox fluid drain and flush I wrongly identified the drain plug and undid a drain on something else:eek:. Can anyone tell me what it is if I describe it as best I can:confused:. Facing forward beneath the car, right hand side, aft of the autobox sump, there is what I believe is the transfer box? Then aft of that still is an alluminium casing with a cross hatch plate on it. This is the plug I inadvertantly removed. What is this part? Luckily not too much oil was lost before I realised my mistake, however what came out was filthy so I had better change the oil in that as well. If anyone can tell me what it is and what oil to use I'd be much obliged.

Thanks, Paul

Transfer box , I take it the oil really has a nasty smell ?? filler for tbox is half inch drive square plug up to left of prop shaft at rear of t box . Hope this helps .

Fill plug at the rear of the transfer box behind the brake drum or drain plug at the bottom of the box after that it's just the prop to the rear diff.

Thanks to all who replied. Oil was a bit smelly but was more concerned with the fact that it looked like thin treacle! Another little job added to the list.

Greatly appreciate the help.

Paul
