The parking sensor has suddenly stopped working. The switch lights up when it's pushed in but the bleeping has stopped. Any suggestions please before the £60 an hour garage has a look. ta

Learn to drive. It's amazing how long people have been parking without the aid of beeping sounds. Or fit a tow bar, when you hear a crunching sound stop reversing.

Maybe a silly question, does anything else use the same beeper? so you can check if it is the beeper not working or the signal to it?

Cheers

How do the Posh Spice cars cope for reversing:eek: For the sensors turn the ignition on put in reverse gear then walk past each sensor node. Then when you find the offending one either replace with an inner one for outer to cover the corners. Is this covered under insurance.

Maybe its a generational thing but I suspect the majority of members on here learned to drive long before reversing sensors or reversing cameras were even thought of - and I for one prefer to trust my own judgement and the use of mirrors etc, rather than some irritating beeper that has no "sense" of the surrroundings and may very often not detect hazzards such as thin metal bollards, or low kerbs. :)

Reverse sensors are a common failure. The speaker's are know to fail too. Put a multi-meter to the speaker terminals and put an object in the path of the sensors.

Parking sensors are useful when reversing towards a low wall or post. Both these are hidden from the driver's seat. ;)

Each working sensor should be making a ticking sound when the car is in reverse, this can be heard if you put your ear next to it.
if one isnt making the noise its probably a fault their. the reversing beeps should come back when the faulty sensor is replaced.

Good call but just checked and all sensors are ticking.

when you start the car do your hear a long beep (this is the fault warning) if so check the fuses (you can always do this anyway) another member Rdp mentioned Fuse 16 fixed his problem, although fuse 24 is the parking sensor fuse

if not its probably the parking sensor speaker as Nodge68 said above its located on the Right hand side (offside) of the luggage compartment behind the pannel

Firstly. Thanks everyone for your sensible replies. The sensors are all buzzing when put into reverse. Also the light on the switch illuminates but no sound from the speaker when reverse is engaged. Checked all fuses ok and had the back panel off for the speaker. The plug to the speaker is getting 12 volts according to my voltage tester so maybe a faulty speaker. Looking on another forum someone mentioned the ecu which is the black box that the speaker is attached to. I put a buzzer across the unplugged speaker terminals hoping it would short and sound the buzzer but sod all happened so perhaps it is the speaker after all. Will look on the web for a replacement.

Just looked on e bay for the replacement speaker and there is one for sale used for £24. Anyone know anywhere cheaper? cheers

You might get 12 Volts across the speaker terminals but current is very low, due to it being a high resistance. It would be cheaper to measure the speaker's dimension anf find a cheap replacement driver on Ebay? Do you have another speaker you could try?

What in the world is a parking sensor? This is a serious question.

Fraid not. I'll buy the £24 one and send it back if it don't beep.

Are you serious?
