There does seem to be an increasing range of alternative manufacturers appearing for the L322 parts as they get older and more genuine parts reach the end of their serviceable life. As volume demand increases so does competition as it makes it more viable for manufacturers to set up making them.

Volume is what manufacturers need to reduce cost and selling prices, it's when there is a low volume demand prices may initially fall as there is a surplus of parts but as demand falls it's less attractive for manufacturers to produce the parts so they stop and parts become rare and the price could increase.

That's only based on my experience as I worked at Delphi for 6 years and have been supplying cutting tools to that type of company for the last 20 on and off.
The biggest impact has been the rapid growth of chinese parts being made.

It's a bit like the Mk1 Escort, you could pay £2000 for a pair of mexico front wings a few years back as they were very rare and now china has stepped in again and started producing Mk1 escort parts so now you can buy a complete floor, inner and outer wings and dozens of other parts for less than a pair of wings which is down to the increase in demand from people restoring old Escorts as the price for them has increased.

There is lots of talk about just this. Do a search , good luck!

This link seems rather useful. Sorry, but the answers here are not really helping....:)

No offence of course. But really I'm working on this already since last winter, and do have all the tech docs available. Changed the FBH, changed the thermostat, changed the temperature meter, and so on and so on....

So now it's a matter of principle I want to get this solved :frusty:

Hi,
FWIW, I installed a Webasto Thermo Top T in my P38 V8. It works like a charm, but exactly like you, I don't get a properly preheated interior. It clears the ice, but that's about it, because most of the heat gets dropped in the big frozen engine block. For maximum interior effect and sod the engine, I'd go with what someone else here suggested: Install solenoid valves to isolate the engine from the coolant circuit when the webasto is running, so that all the heat generated gets dropped in the heater matrix. This would work very well I'm sure, but it wouldn't do your engine any favours.

The factory fitted preheater when used with the remote should divert heat into the cabin before the engine ...

Hi Henrik!
Nice to see that it's not just me that is crazy enough to keep a P38 alive :) I am aboute to put a Webasto Thermo Top C in my P38-96 and would be very happy if you could give me some hints .

Cheers

Hi,
What do you want to know?

Henrik

Hi,
the heatercomponents are no big deal, but it's the part to hook it up to the P38's little hell of eletric;)
Maybe you could e-mail me, and if you got any photos would be great.
