Hi yet another gremlin in my 2011 Freelander 2 SE. When selecting reverse the park assist led flashes six times and I get a single long tone. I've had diagnostics carried out and it shows a fault on the PAM LED which I presume is the switch unit and a fault on the module. Trouble is this seems to be an intermittent fault. They work sometimes and tend to fail as your driving along. Any suggestions, and where is the PAM located. Many thanks.

Is it only playing up when the weather is poor ie raining or after the car as been washed? it only takes one sensor to be faulty to stop them working correctly, try cleaning them with some WD40 spray and rub with a rag.

Also have a read of this below.

My parking sensors have never worked. When I put the ignition on, the PDC would beeb, and when reverse was selected, the light would flash, but that was it. When I ran a diagnostic, it came back as 3 rear sensors were missing, which they were I bought the vehicle. I replaced all 4 rear sensors, with some cheap Ebay items, but now the faults show as no power to the PDC module. I don't remember this fault initially, but if I unplug the rear sensors, it says the sensors are missing, and there's no power to the PDC. It's odd, so I'm going to replace the PDC module, when I've got the rest of the vehicle working.
The module is behind the LH boot trim, reasonably close to the rear fuse box.

Did anyone resolve this? I have same symptoms so purchased replacement sensor and yesterday spent the day removing the front and rear bumpers swapping sensors out hoping to resolve the issue without success, so I now think the module must be faulty. I located the module and reseated all connections but no joy. A bit of googling shows 2nd hand replacements to be quite cheap, however it may need recoding to the vehicle. Can any one confirm this? If so ideas of cost to recode and could any garage do it, or would it have to be land rover specific/ specialist?

Thanks

I mostly fixed mine.
I replaced the missing 3 sensors with cheap ones off ebay, as it turns out they were faulty, and stopped the whole system from working.
Now I've fitted some replacement (second hand) genuine sensors, the PDC now mostly works. The long beep on starting has gone, and the indicator LED on the switch is now on solid.
However I've an issue with the front sensors, as I get a continuous high tone (front detecting something close), and one of the front sensors has need displaced at a wonky angle by something, which I suspect is detecting the bumper in the sensor path. However if the car is driven in rain, or I wash it, then the front sensors then work as they should, which is very strange. I'll put a diagnostic on it when I get time.
I've more pressing issues to deal with at the moment, but I will get to it, eventually.

I would be surprised if it neededs coded to the vehicle. It's not identity or security related. Most modules are modular in design. Therefore no specific coding. The FL2 has a self repair mechanisum where certain modules need two drive cycles to get them working.

Thanks both for the replies. Nodge - good luck with the more pressing issues.

Hippo - i'm sure I read on another forum thread that it needed re-programming but cant now find the post to reference it. Will take a punt on a 2nd hand one from ebay and see what happens.

Thanks. These FL2s are complicated machines, which can really give us the runaround.

The PDC isn't coded to the vehicle, but you do need the correct type, either 4 or 8 sensors.
I've a working spare 8 sensor PDC module going cheap, if you want to avoid being stung on Ebay. ;)

Now fixed with a 2nd hand replacement parking control module.

For the benefit of anyone else experiencing this issue, it is both cheaper and MUCH easier to swap the parking control module first, than having to take off both bumpers and individually swap parking sensors.

If only I had know I could have saved £50, a weekends work and some battered fingers.
