I have seen a few posts but trying to figure out if the cheeper para springs are in the end as good as the more expensive, island 4x4 have a full set on ebay for 150 quid, john craddoc has just fronts for 110, worth the extra money or should extra be spent on shocks ?

The island springs are brit-part, saw a problem may exist with these ?

I know its an old topic but its potentially a lot a dosh to spend on a 1,000 pound series II, even if i do love it, but er in doors needs a re-inforced bra with the ride i get at the mo. comments please (on the springs not the bra)

Hmm, dunt expect a softer ride. I've pairobollox & pro comp gas shocks on mine & the ride is hard, but it does handle well on and off road.

Ask HybridGirl about my motor, her humps and speed bumps.

Parabollix if yer shocks are shot aren't going to make much improvement, but they are worth it if everything else is up to scratch.

Just fit the standard springs (Very Cheep) and buy the missus a sports bra with the savings.
But on a more serious point the standard springs usually just require exercising and oiling.

Mine were like solid bars when I got it but all you need to do is coat them in chain oil and
then find a street with speed bumps and go for it.

I missed that film.:D

Clivees is on the button. Your springs are probably just rusted solid. They need a good clean, a coating of penetrating oil and a right good thrashing over some wicked bumps. If that doesn't work get a new set of standard leafs and look after them correctly.

More likly i'm too old to get in being that im a year older than my landy.
:)

Eye them logs were hell having to get out every 10 foot and putting them back in front and you could never get reliable slaves.

Hi Boozer,

I have the British Springs Parabolics on an 88', with Procomp shocks. The main effect I noticed was increased roll on corners, with a slightly softer ride. Increased articulation was also obvious. The increased roll, basically makes it handle more like a Disco, the old SIII had suspension like an F1.... Never moved!

Dunno if this helps, or is way too late to be useful... but hey... ;)

Thanx 4 the replies, gona try it, either british springs or the 1ns john cradocks sell, the suns out, the roofs off, the screen is flat to the bonnet and i think any improvement in ride will be nice, and i can allways remove to sell 1day and keep 4 the next LRO. try 4 a bargain at eastnor show before i order. Think my springs are rusted up so i will feel a big gain even if its not real.... think that makes me daft

Well after getting f**ked over by paddocks twice! i decided i would look for bearmach springs which are not grey and do not wreak of wrongness (like britpart springs have for me)

here is where i ordered them from

Land Rover Mail Order 4x4

Cost: 184 quid total (thats postage...dick turpin tax and everything)

it is free delivery if you aint in any hurry, but seeing as my truck is on bricks right now i chose the 7 pound a parcel (x2) 24 hour delivery.

hope this helps.

Interestingly when I was trying to replace the springs on my 88', before to Parabolics. I had springs from both Paddocks and Craddocks that seemed to be made of mild steel. They were just soft and flattened out... I went to the parabolics in disgust as the quality of the others was so poor. This is a few years back mind.

I was looking at the parobolics at paddocks. What did they do to wind you up and whats the problem with the springs? are they just rubish quality material or do they just not fit correctly?

Humm, this is getting tuff, i talked to the tech guy at cradocks and he seem ed to know his stuff, said there springs came from sheffield and wer dood quality, to be honest he also said the british springs that chris perfect and the factory themselfs sell are also as good, but watch out for many others. He said the cheeper 1ns you can get are made in india and break, go flat etc. When he recommended british springs(the make not UK made) even tho JC did not sell them, it gave me confidence.(less he is just a 'dont buy abroad' sort a chap.

well my plight with paddocks and britpart and recorded further down in the depths of the forum (entitled parabolic springs.)

but the brunt of it is, britpart admitted they have made their springs wrong by not bending the ends enough. this causes the curls of the springs to rub on my sexy chassis. Twice have i had a set from them (which they say they are not liable for any extra costs we know different). and that is the story so far.

I know a man who is very harsh on his springs, and he swears by Rocky Mountain parabolics, Canadian. I am generally very cautious of anything originating in India or China as the quality of metal is often at best questionable. The British Springs parabolics used to be made in the UK, it's a wee bit distressing they aren't any more. Mine must be 6 years old now and are great, but may have been made by different people.

Sorry I can't be more help. I have a general rule of buy European if you can, it ensures you have a manufacturer who is bound by some code of conduct and is liable for the quality of the goods he produces. Generally that means the metal itself is fit for purpose, although I guess we all own Landrovers and have seen the corrosion on the new ones!!! ;)

copper, r u saying 'british springs ' are not made in the UK, thier website says you can tour the factory and see em made ?

maybe its an old invite ( maybe they gona fly me 2 china, cool!!)

I heard elsewhere on this site that they no longer are... However, your info does call this into question... Let me know what you find out mate! lol
