i took my axle straps off so i could get maximum suspension travel offroad,but if you only go on tarmac i dont supose it matters although fitting paras and long shocks with the straps still on sort of defeats the object. i would still fit longer shocks though as they are a lot better and stronger than standard ones and cope better with the parabolics flexability.

also, just changing oil filter, and a metal disc and spring fell out, didnt see where they were as i had to tap it off, where do they go?

had a lot of hassle with mine, just returned rear springs from mm4x4, (britpart make)
next month GB springs.

Nothing bad about MM4x4, service and returns is good.

My springs are gb and have been on donkeys years,the shocks I fitted are procomp +2" from paddocks,I had de carbon +2" on before they didn't last very long so switched to procomp.wouldn't buy anything else now
 
Hi, after reading an indepth email from gb springs when i was enquiring about parars the advised me not to go for poly bushes as they didnt flex as much as rubber and all the energy would be tranfered to the chassis and could cause more damage than they saved, dont know if this helps.

Yeh I heard that,the polys last a long time but rubber do the job better at a fraction of the price
 
Hi, paddocks supplied me with some blue springs from "their new supplier" and they are excellent.
but.... Noisy. which was sorted by putting some pipe insulation between the helper leaves (with the rubber pads on) and the main leaf, and securing same with duct tape.
 
ok, small change since last post, paras are out for the mo due to lack of work to pay for them.
gonna try a refurb on the old springs; seperate, clean, oil etc. any thoughts?
anyone know where the side is stamped on the spring? couldnt find it.
do need shocks too, so i was thinking armstrong?
then a full set of bushes, standard i think, where can i get a set?
all the usual sell single, or full poly set.

so took rear springs and shocks off today, not too bad a job, only lost a couple of knuckles!
seems to me like the springs were on the wrong side, there is no marks on either to say, but judging by the lean and the fact that the spring that was on the driverside sits 1/2 - 3/4" lower when next to each other on concrete, i think they were on wrong.
the one that was on passenger side felt v stiff so i took it apart and cleaned it, seems better now.
Anyone got any tips for getting the chassis bushes out? the spring ones came out ok.

think i need a couple of repair pieces too, under the bump stops and check strap brackets which have virtually disappeared.
 
Oooh! chassis bushes!. There's a tool for that if you know anyone who's got one. No? Me neither. The book suggests this method and it does work. Pull the inner bush and rubber out with an assortment of long bolts/bits of pipe/ sockets etc, put a hacksaw blade through the outer bush, attach to a hacksaw frame (the blade will be upside down) saw through the bush being careful not to saw through the chassis, knock the bush out with a hammer and chisel. Clean the chassis with a small wire brush and tap the new bush in. Simples (not).
Other people will suggest alternative methods, I'm sure.
 
Yep I do it similar but what I do is burn the rubber out with a blowtorch( just don't set fire to your Landy)then use the hacksaw.To put the new one in I clean the chassis and also run the grinder down the new bush to take a small amount off the daimeter because if your using 'cheaper' bushes you can knacker them up putting them in( unless you make yourself a puller ) just don't take too much off or else when you hit it into the chassis it'll come out the other side like a bullet!! Not that a proffesional like me has ever done that.........honest lol

just put a slight taper on the first 5 - 10mm, and coat the inside of the chassis hole with gooey heavy grease
 
I have just bought two front springs for my Ser2A from Brigg Springs in Lincs. This firm came highly recomended by the Ser 2 Club and only an hour drive from me. They are handed and cost £65 each which is not a bad price. Not put them on yet and due to being in an impecunious state can't as yet afford the rears so will have to wait to see what they are like.
 
I've just taken the bushes out of my leafs, pressed them out, a couple wouldnt budge, some bright spark welded them in.
I'm contemplating removing the chassis bushes as I have a new set.
I used a 7/8" socket with the press to shove the bushes out of the springs and they came out undamaged, I might try as suggested further up a piece of pipe, put the pipe on one end, socket on the other then bolt em up with some allthread and see if the bush will pull out into the tube.
Or cob out and leave them where they are, I suspect they are now at one with their surroundings.
 
well i just spent the last 3 hrs lyin` under the landy beating with a big hammer!
spring bushes popped out ok, and back in again, 1st chassis bush too.
my method was to drill a hole thru the rubber and increase the bit size till through the outer bush, then drill out the rest of the rubber and take a hammer to it.

Worked a treat..... till i got to the other side..
10 min to do the first, 2 1/2hrs to do the second!
prob was i couldnt drill much out as i couldnt see where the bush ended and chassis began, thought for a mo, there was no outer bush, but it was just rusted in.

Have shed quite alot of weight with all that rust falling off the chassis!
Looks like i will one day need new spring hangars/cross member, any pics of this being done? with rear body in place?

Front tomorrow, dreading it!!!

Errrrr......I might be being fick but on road check straps arent doing anything......its off road that you them init? Over articulation can bend your prop if your UJ's cant handle the angle......thought thats why peeps spend silly money on wide angle UJ's........
 
.... talking of which does anybody know where I can get some wide angle UJs - or even propshafts fitted with them?

correct if you only use your Landy on road you won't use the checkstraps so there's no need for an extra 2" of travel,just fit standard components.
I've got mega travel from my suspension but still use standard props
All I do is keep a spare set of props so when a uj goes I just swap the prop over and repair the knackered uj at my leisure
