im on my squillianth problem now. my window lifting mech just broke. i will never ever buy one of these garbage cars again!!!
 
If i had a car that didn't need any "involvement" to make it work i'd get bored. For example I quite like it when my lpg starts giving the occasional cough as it means i can spend a couple of hours stripping it, cleaning it and making it work again. Thats why i bought the P38. Now man up a bit, get a philips screwdriver, take the door card off, fix the window mech, bask in your own job satisfaction.

man up a bit? this is flogging a dead horse. as i have already pointed out before on here, i have never known a make of car to have so many 'common ' faults. i cant get this car repaired as quick as it f**ks up!!

Excellent, sell it soon so we can rid P38's of moaning owners!!

you only joined in 7 moths ago, 49 post, thats not a plague of problems, give it a few years at least, then after that time your have them all ironed out and what a motor you will have!

best go buy a citroen...........i hear the little C3 shopping cars are reliable, off you go then......................................

p.s.
Its an easy to do in half hour fix for £40 and it will last you when done!

If my P38 didnt have small niggling problems what else would I do to amuse myself at the weekends?! :rolleyes:

If your P38 is really that crap and rubbish I will be happy to travel to wherever you are, pick it up and drive it away for you all for free - please PM me if you would like to take me up on this offer. ;);):D:D:D

Not the brightest idea coming onto a range rover forum to tell us they are all crap - you won't get much sympathy here adopting that attitude
Sort it or sell it - but either way stop moaning
BTW - if you decide to sort it then you will get plenty of help on here if you ask nicely ! :)

My P38 has a list of "faults" as long as both my arms. I will sort them when I get time. It's still the best car I have ever owned.
 
Having worked on Land Rovers all my working life as a Mechanic, I have had my P38DT for 7 yrs, its 10 yrs old now, it had a difficult early life, being in a bad accident & classed as an uneconomical repair it needed a front end, right hand side, all second hand parts, “new” windscreen, new right hand air bag susp. & a good repaint, it looks f***ing superb with age & stands out in a crowd. & when you turn up anywhere it commands attention.

Yes it does have it’s problems, but look on the web for any other vehicle forum’s from a Hatchback to a Bentley & you will see horror stories.

To keep it in good order you have to put the “hours in” & do “”preventative maintenance”” & “”regular servicing””, no different to any other car.

Neglect it & it will bite your “bum” & your wallet, just like any other vehicle. My mates Mondeo has cost him mega bucks compared to my P38!

hi. i have owned RR for the last 14 years but have always had classics which are superb cars with no trouble. i had to buy a new wing mirror last week and the guy in the spares shop at my nearest dealer (HR OWEN) said that this model was not their best. im not looking for sympathy but im so surprised that such an expensive car seems to go wrong so often. maybe i have a rogue one!
 
I have a rogue one.

Last weekend someone came to look to possibly buy and the passenger front door lock mech decided to go tits, buzzing away till I unplugged it.

This weekend someone came to look at it and the air suspension decided it wanted to go on holiday. Perspective buyer saw the funny side, NOT!

Before I'd even got the car home less than 3 months ago the cylinder head gasket went down on the left bank.

But, despite all this, I do love it and would have another, I think......

every bloody car i owned has been a rogue one..................:)

 
Mine has cost me thousands - DSE, it blew a head gasket on the way home from buying it and as soon as I got it back from having the engine done the EAS started hard faulting on me.
But six months later, and after buying an EAS Kicker and many hours trawling through the posts here and on Rangerover.net for support, I can safely say it is the most rewarding car i have ever owned or driven. If anything happened it I would go right out and buy another, refurb the EAS and hopefully enjoy several years more of hair pulling/ big grins!
 
The thing about top end cars (remember what they cost new?) is they do tend to go wrong, that's the reason rich people buy them, they can afford to run them, if you haven't the time to put in to fixing it, and you look for your wallet every time something is wrong then you bought the wrong car, try a Ford or Vauxhall etc, something that's within you budget range, cheaper parts and more reliable, these cars when they came out were innovative they were on the edge of what you could achieve in building cars, you always have to remember that, and 10 years later, these parts will fail you, the classic was built in the times when cost wasn't an over riding factor of building a car, they wanted reliability and comfort, no how thin can we get this panel and make more ££ on it, you want a luxury car? then you have to suffer for it aim afraid, now that you have been driving your P38 around, try and get used to driving any other car, its very hard to get use to, and you will miss your P38 for sure

Well for the moment I am one of those get your wallet out grrr!
R reg 4.6 HSE- already converted to gas :), cheap as chips to run, I agree ignorance in purchasing a vehicle without looking into history of the car, but I'm from series 3 lanny, if you weren't a mechanic before you will he after, so I guess others like me prefer to tinkle.
EAS tripped cleared on pc, 3 months later EAS tripped cleared on pc, £40 a time yet working again, then failed 3 months later me thinks garage has put a timer on LOL.
Time to say goodbye to air suspension and welcome coils duely fitted :),week after fuel pump because I'm lazy well didn't want to do the damn work again new pump £311at garage, hmm on way home from garage she stopped, EAS fault?,abs/traction,airbags I just laughed, no check engine light on dash, AA guy arrived no idea however I'd left key in the ignition and guess what the buzzed sound of pump and check light ON, oh yes she started, AA followed to garage, ignition relay switch another £40. Now motoring great for last 2 days :), the point I'm getting at is like previous post do it yourself cheaper in the long run, however I did say to the mechanic I'm thinking of getting rid if anything else goes jokingly, his reply. "best time to sell one of these vehicles is as soon as you bought one" admittedly there are some jobs garages can do, however ......
personally I love my car, landrover is a passion at best,
 
I started with a Series II 1958, striped it down in an afternoon, built it back again in 1 1/2 years from the ground up, that will make you know what's going on under the bonnet, series are great Landys, NOT to be confused with P38s though, on my SII i have just the 1 fuse !!!!!!

After all the fixes you've done, the next guy who may buy it is going to get a really reliable car!

Thats the dilemma! Sell or get rid of a car thats had everything done!

Obviously you've picked a dud one, but apart fromthe obvious RF receiver issue, new exhaust, new tyre, balancing etc its been fine.
 
Well Bighammerfan, can I assume you have it up for sale? I am looking to buy at the mo, and one that has had all the problems sorted sounds ideal. What year and model is it ?
