Hi Folks, I own and drive a 1995 4L V8 P38a, I have a slight problem so I am after a bit of advice as I am a bit lost!
I was out and about earlier today and heard a load pop followed by clouds of steam following me
. I pulled up and killed the engine straight away. When I opened the bonnet (and waited for the steam to disperse!) I found everything covered in bits of rubber and coated in coolant
! On closer inspection i found a 4 inch tear in the top hose next to the alternator.
Now, i am guessing that this all points to a head gasket failure due to the water system becoming so pressurized to burst a water hose. But, I have not noticed any other warning signs at all, I have also only just serviced it (last weekend) with no signs of water in oil or any emulsifying on the cap, also no clouds of steam out the back???
Am i just jumping to worse case scenario conclusions or am i on the right lines here?
And finally, what do i have to do about this?
All help and advice greatly received,
Thanks, Paul.
