Hello all,Haven't been on here for a while. Joined some time a go with the intention to buy a P38 of which never materialised.#
However, the urge to buy one has now come back again. Ideally I'd like a face lift vogue model. Im unsure whether to go diesel or a lpg converted V8 petrol. I do around 12000 miles a year and it would be my commuter vehicle.
Anything I should look out for when viewing? Slightly worried about the air suspension aswell. What do I look out for there? Finally, if any of you have a decent one forsale or are considering then please let me know.
Many thanks in advance and look forward to your replies

Do a site search, the list of things to look for is very long. Never buy one with any faults. The EAS is no problem but may need some work to bring it up to spec.
IMO the diesel is more reliable than the V8 which is prone to HGF and slipped liners.

+1 Diesel for reliability. I run a V8 LPG'd & love it but have suffered 2 HGF's in the first year despite having a precautionary complete cooling system renewal (Rad, Water Pump, Fluid flush etc). I have done over 20k in first year though.
Get one with a comprehensive service list, that way you at least have an idea of impending maintainance required.

Thank you so far for the advice. Sorry but what is HGF? What's fuel consumption like between lpg and the diesel?

Head Gasket Failure.
My late 2000 diesel has averaged 24 mpg on my long term brim to brim log, I get up to 30 mpg cruising at 70 on the autoroute. Can drop to 20 crawling in trafic in the UK. Can be run on bio diesel which makes it much cheaper than LPG. Some claim that the cost per mile on LPG is lower than diesel, I'm not sure I believe them especially when you take into account the LPG servicing costs and the potential for HGF.

I get 17mpg on LPG on a decent run, @ 65p/ltr it works out to approx 17p / 18p per mile. On the face of it cheaper than running diesel but Data is right, with added LPG servicing & potential engine problems a V8 is no cheaper to run...potentially alot more if you get slipped liners etc.
Would still have my V8 over a diesel all things considered though.

Ohhhh this just makes things harder :(. I've already got one V8 so wouldn't be too bothered about noise etc. just want something reliable and also fairly economical (as they can be) as mileage would be 12-14k a year

No Range Rover is entirely reliable, they are not so much a car as a Hobby. Diesel every time IMO.

If reliability & economy are top of the list i would agree a Diesel is the way (especially if you already have a V8 for play). Range Rovers demand constant attention though regardless of the fuel they burn.

Ok so I will most likely go for a diesel :). Anyone selling one? Haha. Would like hse spec. Leather and heated seats are a must too. Not fussed about nav as i guess it's quite dated in one of this era

The Sat Nav is a waste of time. Heated seats rarely work but are easy to fix.
HSE or DHSE means nothing, all BMW products are kit cars, mines a DHSE but the seats are manual which I prefer. Post 2000 cars are better than the early ones IMO.

Brilliant ok. I shall look for a 2000 car - or there abouts. Fancy selling yours haha. I do prefer elecy seats.
Let the hunting begin.

Lol if you want relieable and economical you dont want a rangerover

If you're lucky enough to find one with a top hat liner block there's no reason why the engine shouldn't last for years. That said there are plenty of stock V8s still going strong.

V8 every time (with LPG so as to not break the bank). The diseasel ones I drove prior to buying my 2000 V8 Vogue lacked the feel of a luxury car in terms of performance and refinement, which are important to me. Also the Vogues tend to have more kit.

As others have said however, it's a hobby as well as a means of transport. If you're not happy opening the bonnet regularly you either need extremely deep pockets or to consider something else perhaps? :)

Hi H17N DJ....and hello board! Got a Rioja Red 99 4.6HSE V8 with 99K on the clock...and in very, very good condition. Owned for the last 7 years (as a 2nd car and done 24,000 in this time) and maintained regardless of cost by indi LR garage.....around 7k of receipts and FSH. Used in the winter, polished in the summer. Happy to keep her for the rest of her days but always curious to speak to an interested enthusiast. No mods apart from a stainless steel exhaust that burbles nicely!

Not too sure if this post should live in the For Sale section.......apologies if it breaks site rules.
