Can anyone tell me if there is anyway to tell which sound system I have and wether I can get it working properly with a sony head unit or not?

Its a 2000 (X reg) DHSE

Have sub in boot (not working with sony, cant test with factory hu as its locked)
In the rear speakers it works fine
in the front speakers I just have the high range sound

Any ideas?

Shaun

Thought the HK systems used either Head Unit, but supplied the Door Amps and Speakers

Mines a 2001 with HK system. 3 speakers in each front door, 2 in each rear door and the sub. In the later models it all runs through the dsp amp in the boot. To get an aftermarket hu to work properly, you need to adapt the wiring to suit. Clarky130 did a connector for this job. But he hasn't been on the forum since Jan. Modern hu's can't differentiate the signals to the dsp. That's why you either have partial or distorted sounds.

My dsp is scrap so no sounds at all. That's why I am replacing the whole thing from scratch. Hence selling the good bits on the bay. Sub already sold. :):):)

So to refer to my query...the HK system uses either the Clarion or Alpine HU....all HK did was the Amps/speakers/DSP....

Mine is definately not HK, no DSP etc.
My 95 HSE had the HK system but no DSP too....

It also had the Clarion HU....

So my comment stands...HK supplied the Amps and the Speakers....that will work with either the Apline of Clarion HU fitted as standard.

There is no indication that mine is HK on the speakers or elsewhere, others I have seen with HK have HK logo's:confused:

Maybe I am not being clear in my repsonse.....

Not all models had the HK systems fitted....

The Original post asked about Fitted HU's

A response was Alpine or Clarion....

A further response was what about the HK....

I posted that the HK system was not a HU but all they supplied were Amps and Speakers that mated to the Alpine or Clarion HU for those models that had it fitted......

I can only assume we have had crossed wires....

Some models had the HK sound system mate to either the Alpine of Clarion HU and others didn't and had a standard LR speaker system mated to either the Alpine or Clarion HU's....

AKAIK, Alpine were 1998-99 onwards and Clarion were the earlier HU's

That's what I have. I think if you have sat nav you have the high line system and it should be hk. No sat nav=no hk.

The amp is situated behind the panel in the boot. Behind the sub on the later models. Early models had individual amps in each of the doors.

Lads if you have an amp and sub in the left on the boot you have the hk system does not matter if you have no sat nav if you have no amp sub in the boot you have a low line system and no hk

Thats correct. 98/99 on is Alpine. Like what I had. Earlier is Clarion.

But fitting an aftermarket hu will need the fix doing to get it working.

If you look at the speaker block on the back of the hu, see how many wires there is.

With this sub?

It's this one..

Just a thought. I've seen a mini amp on eBay for £22. This is my plan, run a twin phono lead from hu to boot to plug into mini amp... Pick up the power and rem wire into existing hk amp for the power then use existing wires into sub and back into door speakers. Would that work? Reason I say mini amp is so I can pick up from existing power wires rather than running a direct battery feed. It all depends on the amp and front door speaker wires really.

How many speakers do you have? How many in each door?

Reason I ask is because of this,

If you have 3 in each front door, you will need cross overs to make each speaker work. Then it going to be expensive.

That's why I have bought some pioneer component speakers and I am going to rewire the whole system.

And sorry, can't see if you put a picture of yours.

Sub working.

Orange wire and orange black wires to feed sub connected into one of the speaker outs on the speaker plug. Working perfectly.
