Hi All!!
What a great site! Makes for some real good reading and great advice!
Im a new member, but please dont think ive joint just to get help with my problem.Hopefully in the future i will be able to offer some advice to some?
Ive recently gone from a Nissan Patrol, and brought a 96 DSE P38.(Well happy with the spec for the money!)
Ive had quite a few problems(silly ones) that ive managed to solve via the net.Engine immobiliser and burnt door locks not the best of them!!!
The problem i have at the moment is the standard radio! I have searched and read all the posts to no avail..And so firstly i apoligise that this subject has been hammered!!

I have a Clarion Diversity(cd in boot),Part AMR 2384,Product PU-9844A,Serial CR0174R0092409.....The code LR has supplied and the number written on the radio case in pen is 3311...Once entering this code and then holding BND down for 2 secs gets me no where.Pressuming wrong code, tried 3 times and its locked up..Pulled fuse 1 and got ---- so leaving it turned on for the hour....
Anyone got any suggestions?Id real like to keep the original radio as it matches the cd changer and has fitted wood surround...Many Thanks in advanced Tel

Hi again..
Sorry for the second post only im radio less and have long journeys too and from work in silence!!!
Having left the radio on i got the "CODE IN" message.Again i typed in 3311 and it just stays on the screen. No matter what i press after..
Again left it on with the 3311 on screen and its now gone back to "Code In"
Does anyone have any advise please?Or know somebody i can send it too? Thanks again Tel

Glad to hear im not the only one suffering this problem
(apologies for the long winded entry but the sound of silence is driving me crazy!)

I have a P38 too, following a battery problem my radio needed a code as did my immobiliser. Eventually i obtained the two codes from a main dealer, engine one worked but as for the radio i get the same as you

i get "code in" - enter my code & it just stays there on the display.
Nothing will get rid of it - tried band & manual - no effect
Pulled all the radio fuses & im stuck with four lines "----" (band n manual wont clear these )
tried pulling fuse f1 - ignition on & off etc - no effect
Left the ignition on for an hour & i get a near flat battery but i do get "code in" - back to square one

So i go on Ebay & get a inexpensive software package to obtain radio codes from last for digits of serial number which aparently starts with C7 (mines starts CR0 too) this produces a differnt code - tried that same thing happens the code stays on the display.

Theres got to be any easy way to solve this -
Can some one advise what happens when you put the correct code in? does the stereo come alive or do you have to push more to enter it?

PS - boydonegood i entered your last 4 serial numbers & it reckons your code should be 3637 - might be worth a try

Mine is a model PU-9836A Serial CR0.........3660 - this produces a code of 4234 on my software as opposed to 4355 that the dealer gave me ( this might be because the radio has changed from the original one)

Have now removed the radio to try hooking it up to a 12volt supply so i can try more codes without flatteneing the battery - i might even try the old '80s trick of overnight in the freezer.

Am gonna try my friendly dealer tommorow see if they can help
will keep you posted
oh & good luck

Cheers for reply...
Yep got and done exactly the same....According to my manual that IS for the exact radio i got,it says enter the code via the presets then hit BND and hold for 10 secs..
It let me do that 3 times before it went into "freezing the 4 digits on the screen mode".
After pulling the fuse (which i found on net) it went into ----...After an hour with ign on it then went back to Code in.Attempted the code again 3311 and it just stays on the screen no matter what else i press.Leave it an hour and i get Code In again...
Will try your code tommorow....Thanks!!!
If not will have to try Yellow pages....Will keep you informed!!
P.s Im doing the "Hold BND as you turn it on"Trick...Least i get 5 mins of music!!!
Cheers Tel

SOme good news but not a final answer im afraid
Nipped out at lunchtime & popped to a new range rover authorised dealer near me thats just taken over from a vw garage (without the rangie)
Found a freindly chap from the service department
He checked the code via using my chasis as reference - same code - then said he'd fax the radio serial number etc to Land Rover cross refernce this for a code - he rang me back an hour or so later - you guessed it same code. but he agrees there is something to be pressed to enter it - though he cant remer.
Ne ways he offered to take a look - no charge!- so im gonna drive it down to him on thurs & see what happens.
Might be worth finding your nearest main dealer via land rover or a landrover dealer of sorts, take your log book as they need proof of owner ship, confirm the code & see if they can do it.

I have no radio manual, so will try what yours says & hold band for 10 secs & see what happens

As ever Good luck

Have just found a site that reckons for my model its enter code then press the ^ button - might be worth a go

OH dear just found this on the net (is for my model)
not good

Code Entry instructions for?Clarion PU 9836A
  • Switch the radio on? display shows CODE IN
  • Enter the code using the preset buttons
  • I.e if the code is : 5412
  • Press preset "?5 "
  • Press preset "?4 "
  • Press preset "?1 "
  • Press preset "?2 "
  • The code will enter itself automatically.
If you are unable to enter a code to start with, simply leave the radio powered up for 1 hour to reset it.
This happens if you have incorectly entered a code.

If the code does not activate your radio, unfortunatly your code must have been reprogrammed.
We can still decode this radio if you send it to us using our workshop order form.

Hi Buddy!
Thanks for keeping in contact..
Yeah after a few hours at midnight last night i finally found the same info as you..
After entering the right code via presets the radio should just clear itself..
Im afraid ive whimped out...
At 2 am this morn i ended up finding a radio decoding w/shop about 20 mins from me...spoke to the guy today and he reckons from the results im getting(and you too) its the wrong code..(also commented on the programs on Ebay you brought....And me too last night!) Dont work!!!
Im driving down to him tommorow and he reckons 15 mins max and he will recode to any number i want..?!?Even if its totally locked up first..and for between £10 to £20
So will let you know how i get on...and how he goes about entering/ putting new code in....If alls well i'll get you his email as i know he does P+P service..

Sorry for not braving it out and trying to sort it longer but no radio and my own company is killing me!!
Will update you tommorow..Cheers Tel

Just a quick one
Drove to Harlow this morning...Id already removed the radio...Guy took about 10mins plugged into his laptop...Set new code for me,slid radio back in and turned it on entered new code.....At last music again!!!!
Charged me a tenner! Well happy!!
I know mines a different head unit PU-9844A (have emailed him and asked for instructions for yours)
But to enter code he just typed it in using the appropriate pre sets..i.e 1 =1
2=2
3=3
4=4
Then waited about 30 secs and the radio comes on...No more buttons to press..
The guys site is http://angliandecode.co.uk ..His name is Peter and is real helpful....He does decoding via post,as not sure where you are....
If you do email him, please mention i had passed his address on as am going to have an alarm fitted by him soon and will stand me in good stead!;)
Good luck! Tel

Excellent thanks

in the end i resorted to the yellow pages under Car audio & got quotes of 25 - 85 quid with 2 days to a week to decode it. comments of oh its a clarion they take a week & cost 85)
Then found a mobile guy who came round that day, took radio apart & read the code chip via laptop- it had indeed been changed from the orginal one. I now have a new code & more importantly i have music~!!!!
thanks for your help & happy rangie ing

i think the best advice for any one else reading this is (from my experience)
get the serial number which is stamped into the body work
go to a land rover main dealer with the number & your log book for the original code
enter that code using the 1-6 buttons & if its right then music should start in 30 secs
if that code doesnt work - find someone who can decode it with out sending it away & dont pay more than 20 quid

help, how do i get rid of the ---- on my screen, without leaving the key in for an hour? if i did that where i live, my beloved would be as the film suggests,'Gone in 60 seconds'!

Depending on how many times you have entered the code incorrectly....

At the first wrong attempt you have to wait a minute...
The second - 2 minutes...
Third - 4 minutes....
forth - 8 minutes etc etc....

The time doubles on each incorrect input....
