Hi there hope someone can help me my 1995 4.0 range rover overheats after about half hour the temp gauge doesnt shoot up just eases up the heater blows hot I've just had it running with the coolant bottle cap off and noticed the water will over flow out the top but when I rev the car the water sucks back down then over flow again I changed the rad and thermostat and was driving it for a month then out the blue it started to get hot so I took her off the road so please if anyone can shed some light on it I would very much appreciate it thanks

Did you check thermostat opens correctly before fitting? Also is radiator getting hot all over? Some new rads have had baffle displaced which does not circulate water properly. Have you tested viscous fan operation (rolled newspaper test)? If all these check out may worth checking for exhaust gases in the coolant, suspect head / head gasket problem.

Good point, don't think it does, a bit sleepy when I wrote that. Although after fitting a new rad on my v8, temperature stability improved no end. Water pump another possible problem area.

If you are getting the erratic volume in the expansion tank in my experience this is caused by air in the system could be getting in anywhere but check the hose fro the top of the rad to expansion tank isnt airlocked - try running with the cap off rev to 1500 to 2000 and you should get a steady stream of coolant just inside the neck of the tank this will show the pump strength as well
