So I removed the range selector today, (the triangular shaft moves freely) and replaced it with the one off of the breaker (I don't know if this is good or not), made no difference, next swapped the ecu... Again, made no difference. I don't know how to test the selector off of the car so `I decided to strip one of them down, all looks good inside with no burning smell or obvious issues.... One question (which will turn in to two), should you be able to turn the triangular key way in the selector? I couldn't turn it on either of them... Second question, will a major EAS fault stop the car from selecting Lo range?
Pliers Grrrrr? I can turn the shaft in the transfer, am I misunderstanding? (highly possible). I didn't want to admit to this..... but I'mhaving trouble downloading the RAVE file, I'm not the greatest when it comes to tech stuff..Yes, should be able to turn it with pliers on it. RAVE has a troubleshooting section which shows the pins on the ratio motor connector and expected voltages. Just make sure there are lots of axle stands under those chassis rails when you are under there.
Ok, thanks Oakey, I may bite the bullet and buy a new selector.No. 2 = no

Thank you,I'll try to find it, all the ones I've found so far don't seem to work, that could just be me doing it wrong though....Pliers on the little triangular shaft you can see when you take the motor off. One way is high, the other is low.
A member on here put lots of different versions of RAVE in his dropbox account. It is absolutely invaluable so worth perservering. There's a single big PDF version too, albeit a bit clunky.
Sorry Brian, are you on about the blue plastic circular cap held on by three screws? Think it has 4 wires going in to it from memory..If its the selector its a small plastic bit that clips over the rod that operates the natural switch which can be bypassed.
Just tried my spare and I couldn't turn it , try plugging it back in but leave it off the transfer box and get someone to move the selector and see what happens.you could also put a fuse in position 11 in the seat fuse box,get someone to turn on the ignition and see if the motor turns to select the neutral position. Don't forget to remove it afterwards. If nothing moves mark the blue cover position, remove the three torque screws and check the selector gearbox, something could have jammed the cogs or the grease could have hardened. So I removed the range selector today, (the triangular shaft moves freely) and replaced it with the one off of the breaker (I don't know if this is good or not), made no difference, next swapped the ecu...
