Had this issue on mine, clue was the N wasn't lighting up, fix was the xzy sector thingy on the side of the transmission.
Sooooo, lets pretend that someone on here doesn't know what a XZY selector thingy is on the side of the transmission, and lets also pretend that that someones N was showing but still no low ratio......, and just for good measure, let's also pretend that.... oh I don't know.... an orange light that looks like two gears with a line through them flashes up on the dash.................. Would it still be the XZY thingy? And if so, what is an XZY thingy?

Doesn't really matter to you as yours is a manual ;)

Errrmmm, yes, but I may have accidentally bought another one.... or two actually, both diesels and automatics......
All the XYZ switch does is tell the ECU what gear you've selected as the shifter is moved the cable moves the switch and various contacts make or break, telling the ecu what the driver has selected.

it can play up, one main symptom is you selecting gears and it not engaging, a good thrash up and down the gate usually cleans the contacts! ;)

Is this to make one good one out of three:D
It is Brian.
Thanks Henry b
They seem to Oakey, to be honest I've not looked at it to much as only collected it Wednesday afternoon. It's been sat up for a year or so due to an ABS fault which is my first job to look at.

I meant can it be driven normally?
There is not a fuse in I think position 11?
Sorry Oakey only just seen your reply. Yes, drives fine in Hi, gear change is a little sluggish but it's been sat for a couple of years I think, will service the box and change filters as a matter of course.
Spent a little time on her today and managed to sort the ABS problem (Thanks again Brianp38 and all who helped), ran the selector up and down in Hi and Low with no effect. The beeping and dash light flashing starts as soon as the gear-lever reaches the centre of the selector on it's way over to Low, had a poke around underneath, pulled connectors, cleaned and plugged back in but still the same, can't see anything obviously wrong. There is a cylindrical electrical do dah on the side of the transfer box (I know you know what I mean....) I'm wondering what this is and if it's worth swapping it out from my spares car?

if you mean this ,it's the hi,low range selector.so I'd try changing it. While it's off try moving the triangular shaft to make sure it's not seized.

How did you get on with the issue Mudmenance?

So I removed the range selector today, (the triangular shaft moves freely) and replaced it with the one off of the breaker (I don't know if this is good or not), made no difference, next swapped the ecu... Again, made no difference. I don't know how to test the selector off of the car so `I decided to strip one of them down, all looks good inside with no burning smell or obvious issues.... One question (which will turn in to two), should you be able to turn the triangular key way in the selector? I couldn't turn it on either of them... Second question, will a major EAS fault stop the car from selecting Lo range?
