I think you are right. Car's can be "Classics" of their Marque and I think it is "stealers" that allude to a car being classic long before they achieve any real status.
But a car that still looks almost like it popped out of the showroom a few days ago even after 20 years of existence makes a motor somewhat special in the mind of the owner.
I imagine the 40 year No-Tax & No-MOT on my steed will be long after I am gone. But that's OK.

The date was fixed last time I looked, rather than a period of time. Anything before 1976 or something like that? @brianp38dse might know. Think his Ford is tax exempt.

Is it twenty years for Classic recognition? It's not something I've ever looked into, never had a car this old before  I'd certainly think 20yr old cars must be 'vintage'. A bit like 20 yr old vlothes are vintage :D

Your reply is illustrates the very reason for my post (30 years a classic)
The current situation in the UK is so vague, with insurance companies & classic car show organisers taking different viewpoints, even HMRC set their own agenda if you use an older car for business. A clearly defined qualifying age, accepted by all, would surely be beneficial

HI
I dont know if I am allowed to post this on this thread but I hope so !
Our 2001 P38 R/.Rover diesel has broken its front propshaft which has launched into the gearbox underside . The gearbox was starting to slip anyway and would have needed replacing. It therefore needs another gearbox and prop. We have had to buy another vehicle as we need something straightway and I wonder if anyone is interested in the P38. ?

It has only done 113000 miles from new and we have had it since 2006. Full detailed service history. Rebuilt AES valve block recently. Very new battery. Full grey leather interior. Blue metallic bodywork. It wont be unreasonably priced. We would prefer it to go to a good home.

It is still strapped on our trailer after recovery so we would deliver it within 10 or 20 miles if our fuel costs were paid.
We are located near Newport in South Wales. Send me a PM if anyone is interested and I will provide more detail.

@RangeRoller dt is fairly close. Might be of use to him if a manual. Not sure what year yours or his is.

Too far away or I'd have it I have a spare gearbox and prop.

Thanks for the link to Sale and Wanted Mark and I have transferred my thread to that.
I did not realise there was a sale and wanted section otherwise I would have gone there first. This thread above is in fact headed "Marketplace" so I thought it was the correct place. A bit confusing ?
Sorry !!
