Hi all

Replaced the batteries in the key fob as when I was going to unlock the car, it would take a few pushes of the button for the LED on the key fob to illuminate and for the car to unlock. It works every time on the lock button though.

After replacing the batteries, it was no better, and infact now has decided not to work at all.

However, I managed to do something, whereby if I put the key in the drivers lock, and turned it clockwise to unlock the car, and held the unlock button in at the same time, the interior lights came on, all doors unlocked, and I could start the car.

I tried key 2, which has never worked since I bought the car with fresh batteries, nothing, tried it in the door lock, nothing, but now the trick with key 1 that unlocked it etc doesnt work :(

Any ideas?
How much are new fobs, and how do I sync them with the car?

Kind regards
Jonathan

I resynched my remote by following the instructions here:

Replacement and Reprogramming the BeCM, Locks, Remotes, or ECM

Worked straight away for me with no problems at all. Regarding your button problems, you can buy repair kits on eBay for about £10 which may solve all your button problems.

Hi all, I have gone through the re-sync process but no joy with key 2 which I think is completely knackered.

Key 1, which only lights up the little LED on the keyfob when pressing the lock button still doesnt unlock the vehicle, even after the re-sync process, so again I think its on its way out.

How much are the fobs from the dealership, and do they come with the key cut?

I found a few of these places Landrover/Disco fobs has anyone got one of the new single button types?

Kind regards
Jonathan

have you used the full eka code reset??? it's quite easy but you will need your eka code from your cars documentation pack or from the dealer!!

Hi Gav

I have the code, and I will try that tomorrow, didnt want to annoy the neighbours too much with all the alarm chirping!!

I have worked out that I can unlock the drivers door with the key, which only unlocks the drivers door, then put the key in the ignition, press the lock button (as the unlock one doesnt work) and this unlocks all other doors and switches the imobiliser off.

Do you think the full eka reset will get both buttons working on the remotes working?

Kind regards
Jonathan

Replacement keys are fookin expensive £160plus the last time I enquired. They have to be coded in Germany apparantly and will be set up ready for the car. Oh an I think that dont include the key.

DO NOT under any circumstances buy a fob from Egay or similar. It is impossible to reprogramme them to your car.

logically speaking from what you say it shouldn't be needed but i dont think it will do any harm, to me it seems the reciever on the car isnt getting a signal or is not understanding the signal so is ignoring it. i have very little experience with the p38 so all i can do is advise tried and tested routines.

i personally think the designer of the p38 was killed after he put the design into production as there are so many gremlins in the systems!!!! probaly killed him cos of the faults or the fact that LR don't have the solutions to em!!!!!

just thought, have you checked the connection to the reciever, its on the drivers side beneath the parcel shelf supports i think!!

**** the bed, £160 notes for a fob without key!!! My Dad bought a merc one, keyless thing and that was only £100

Surely if the car wasnt receiving a signal then it would not get the "lock" signal, which it does, every time. Every press of the button, the red LED on the fob lights up, even when miles away from the car, but the unlock one doesnt, which makes me think its the fob thats knackered.

There are a few fobs on ebay, one new one too. are they really impossible to programme to your car? There is one on there at the moment for under £30 notes. If I could get that one so it worked to my car, and then swopped over the key bit then sorted.

How do the fobs come apart???

Jonathan

its the rolling and static codes that need to be programmed to the becm

have a look here:
Security and Alarm System Operation & Diagnosis on Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38A

the only reason i say eka and checking connections is because of the cost of new fobs!!! my car had one last year at a cost of £123.

also one way to sync new fobs is Replacement and Reprogramming the BeCM, Locks, Remotes, or ECM this may help for your key, as i said they can lose thier signal/sync and anything is possible with a range rover!!!! lol!!!!

hi jonathan,i have just had the same problem with my p38 so i bought refurb key fob kit off ebay which included 2 batteries new buttons and batt cover with copper strip in the wright place ,took 2 mins to do ,and now works ever time cost les than a tenner .pj

I will check that out mate, cheers for that. I phoned my local LR main dealer today, £118 for a new fob and key, coded and ready to go.

Hi all,
I've just bought my first p38. It's a 2.5 DT.
The keyfob doesn't lock/unlock the car but I can gain access by using the key. When I lock/unlock with the key the indicators flash and it starts first time but the passenger side front door remains locked.
What does this mean regards my fob? Can I get it working again, or do I need a new one. I only got the one with it too.
It's a 99 on a T plate.
All suggestions welcome.

Why have you posted this here? The thread is 3 years old...start a new one...oh, and maybe, just maybe, its your central locking thats the problem and not the fob.

as above if one button is working but not the other try a refurb kit from fleabay they are only a few squid, it sorted my one and only key out fine and its still ok over a year later

Oh, come on !!
He must be one of the few that has used the Search facility:eek: rather than just posting the same old topics which have been well covered again & again & again & again & again & again,]

My fob doesn't work at all. I've tried new batteries and the red light comes on but that's all, from what I can gather this means a re-sync. Am I right. If so, how do you do it? Is it the hold down lock, insert key into door, turn to lock and hold for 3 secs, return to centre, release lock button?
Also, should the alarm beep? All it does is flash the repeaters and display a message saying alarm been triggered.

In the old days to check a remote was working we used to tune a radio into "long wave" and turn the dial as we pressed the remote, when it got to a ghost frequency the speaker on the radio would buzz when it found the remote , this told me it was working fine. think long wave is no more on most radios now days :(

If the LED is coming on on the FOB, check the RF receiver in the car, good chance it has been disconnected due to interferance problems flatening the battery. Try standing right next to the rear side window and operating the FOB.

I had a similar problem and broke open the key fob to clean the circuit board and one of the buttons fell off so soldered it back on and it worked
