Hi having recently replaced my eas pump for the third time in a year (I finally found the leak that was causing the pump to burn out). My car is now dropping over night. I have to park it on a slope. With the engine off when I close any of the doors or boot I can hear the click click click of the car trying to level its self. If I pull the eas relay out from under the passenger seat will this stop the car from trying to level out with the engine off. I’m thinking if I still have a leak somewhere and the car doesn’t try and level it’s self it will show up? All 4 air bags have been replaced in the last year or two and a new set of seals on the valve block

Pulling the relay will stop it self levelling, so if one corner goes down that will be the line that has a leak.
You need to go round all the pipe connections with soapy water. I have found that the pipe connections to rear airbags are often the culprit as access is difficult

Sorry to but in, are the lines plastic?
Can they be replaced in all exposed/hot areas by copper, with a change back to the push-in plastic at the ends?
I don't have any issues at the moment but I was wondering if it was an option.

All the lines are plastic. Anything is possible but changing to metal would not be easy and is IMO entirely pointless as it would inevitably lead to the need for more joints with the potential to leak.

So with the relay out the car didn’t drop much over night but it was even across all four corners and it was very cold and exposed where it’s parked so I’m happy there is no leak. With the relay back in this morning level of our every time I close a door by quite a lot and obviously every few hours. Would this indicate a faulty eas relay or something else further down the line

They normally level down every time you open & close a door and every 6 hours, so that sounds normal.
With the relay out, it should not drop by a measurable amount unless there is a big change in temperature causing the air to contract or expand.

With it in its dropping a lot even in the time it takes to go into a shop. Went from about 8 to minus 2 over night where I am. It only dropped a little overnight. With it in its getting as low as access mode in a very short space of time

I had a leak on the right rear connection with I thought I had fixed I’ll check both rear bags again but a few weeks ago it wouldn’t drop at all I could leave it for a week and it would move at all

With the engine running and the car not moving anywhere the compressor will kick in run for a few seconds then the car will drop then a little while later do the same over and over again is this a sign of a leak or electrical fault

Could be a leak storage side. Had an exhaust leak or blow at all? Or sometimes the drier leaks.

A leak

I’ve got through a few pumps in the last year or so. I eventually found the rear right was not connected properly. All bags are fairly new valve block has new seals. I’m thinking it’s more of a faulty electrical component. I’m going to look at that connection again. With the eas relay out the car dropped very slightly but evenly, with the relay in its random how much it drops even over a few minutes I’ll see if I can borrow another one see it that makes any difference

Shouldn't really drop appreciably overnight with the delay timer removed. I suspect the exhaust valve in the EAS block might be leaking but better check with @wammers or @Datatek first.

Connector behind passenger kick panel always worth checking too.

For sure it's a leak not an electrical problem if it drops with the relay out.

I’ll go and inspect all the connections especially the right rear which was loose before. Are there any signs of it being a pipe that is split or is it just a case of tracing everything

Check the pipe across the back it runs near the exhaust
The pipes for the rear and the air tank run along the left side chassis member, if the centre box of the exhaust blows or the pipe, it can melt the pipes often causing just a pin hole.
The easiest way to prove this is to buy a few metres of plastic airline and make temporary links one at a time from the valve block to the rear airbags & air tank.

True, but a leak at the dryer does not do the compressor a lot of good.:)

Indeed. But the impression i got from the post was that the drier can cause a corner leak when it cannot. Was just ruling that possibility out. :)
