Yes when I bought the car, someone had fitted a power box and later I found out the ECU had been chpped also. Poor job was done as the old chip had been cut off leaving the contacts in place and the new chip soldered to the contacts damaging the chip.

So I removed the powerbox and removed the chip along with old contacts, purchased a chip from guy in Poland and soldered it in to place myself. Without burning the chip.
Hope you had the correct soldering iron, if not you could have damaged the chip.

Unbranded glowplugs often disappoint. Beru or NGK from an over the counter trade supplier or you may be buying crap.
If you have the correct pipe the leak off should be no problem unless the return from the last injector is blocked. The correct pipe is quite hard to get over the injector pipes.
Land rover specialist selling crap?

Should I have words with them and get my money back? The advert said premium glow plugs!

Leak off pipes well I need to go and get a smaller size as I asked motor factor for leak off pipes and it was the same as what was took off car.

I need to check that last return pipe.

Chip is fine. I am a good at soldering. And I was mindful of less heat the better...

The previous chip well that was clearly burned as can been seen looking at it. Piggy back I think is the term.

As far as your glow plugs are concerned, I don't know what you have bought, what I do know is that there are lots of glow plugs around that do not work well. Personally, I buy branded glow plugs from a trade supplier.

Wammers knows the correct size of leak off pipe, I can never remember.

If it's of any use, I rebuilt my DSE recently and put new chains and sprockets on. However I used cheap ####art glow plugs and they were worse than the old ones that had been in there since Stonehenge. Changed them to Bosch and only one turn and it starts superb. However if it's a coincidence..I also had my injectors serviced with new nozzles one at a time and the startup and tickover also improved. The workshop said that only four injectors were working correctly the other two were just making do so diesel was just dribbling in, hence struggling on startup and tickover.. thought!

I'm going to contact the land rover pets specialist I bought the glow plugs from.

I think.i.may still have numerous issues affecting power/startup. Leak off pipes, injectors serviced. Boost leak somewhere. Also think I need a oil catcher on hose from rocker to air intake. Also thinking I may have temp sensor issues also.

Oh the joys

You need to be sure the glow plugs are the problem before you go casting aspersions.

Beru glows are the best I've had. Miles better.

Might be worth a second hand engine ECU off the bay and then write the security code to your BECM.

There's a metal mesh inside the rocker cover that gets gummed up and needs clearing. Are the turbo hoses themselves good? Not collapsing or delaminating inside?

Put some noname glow plugs in my diesel p38 couple years ago needed two heats before it would fire 2 days later went to local factors for 6 ngk plugs started first turn on them.

On starting car today I only have one heat and the car started straight away. Still lumpy which I think is mostly down to leaking leak off pipes along with oil breather problems and possibly defunked injectors. I am going to visit local scrap yard over he weekend and get the injector with the wire. Also I'm going to remove all injectors and clean them up and retorque them . Visit local motor factors and get the tightest fitting pipe I can buy for the leak off pipes.

Noticed yesterday also that the coolant hoses were rock hard, slackened off expansion cap and pressure went. I had bought a new cap months ago, as research has suggested caps were not allowing pressure to be released.

Will there ever be an end and to enjoy the vehicle!

You can get small cable ties on there I put them on the pipes loose then fitted pipes and pinched them up with long nose pliers,
You be very very lucky if the snap on diagnosis will read any thing on a diesel.

I may get silicone pipe but I'm aware that diesel may affect the silicone. I'll buy some small cable ties also just incase.

Also I realise that obd was later introduced on diesel engines than petrol.

I did manage to get eas software and cable but that only does the suspension.

At some stage I will purchase an old laptop and try source all the relevent programs for each of the modules. If it is possible.

Non return valve also I need to fit.

Just been goggling there also and it seems no4 injector has common problem with spill pipe leaking, read from other threads on this site.

Roll on the weekend. Gonna be a busy boy, the Mrs will not be a happy bunny!

You will not get software to run on a laptop for the other systems unless you manage to pick up an old bit of kit built by Blackbox solutions that is dedicated to the p38 diesel, there current pics of kit is the nanocom and very good it is
As far as I am aware no generic obd readers will work a p38 diesel is a very fussy beast when it comes to diagnostics

Also may speak nicely to my neighbour who has a snapon diagnostics. So I can see live data.

Check the LZIR map. There might be someone near you with a Nanocom who can help out. Otherwise you'll be guessing until you've replaced the whole engine. Not sure what Snapon can read but you might get lucky. The professional stuff must work I guess.

Leak off pipe: you want the decent Bosch stuff. Dopey has a polish mate who brings it back from Germany because he says all the stuff in this country is utter sh!te. Given the issues we see on here he might be right. Stay away from Sh!tpart whatever you do. You could have mine for free just to get it out my shed but to be honest I wouldn't want to give it to anyone.

On a couple of Chinese sales sites,( not naming but they could be anything that a "geek" could "wish" for) they sell tiny sprung pipe clips in various sizes for a couple of quid a dozen. They are small enough to get in the gaps and hold very tight. Unfortunately they take about a month to arrive..but work.

If I can advise regards the injectors, I wouldn't bother trying to do them yourself unless you have the test bench equipment you can get hold of. Few on here have tried and it can cause all sorts of heartache if they don't get set up properly for the spray patterns. Find a good local diesel workshop and get them to rebuild or clean them, I couldn't afford all mine done at once(£56 Each ) and everyone needed a new nozzle, so had them done one at a time, over a couple of months. (and you have someone else to blame then if they don't work..,:D) Well, well worth it.
