Would have thought they would have stated if it was new, so maybe a chance at second hand. Its not a hard job to do so with the price of new I'm leaning towards second hand. Only my opinion though and have known to be wrong before

Probably new,I think I paid£150+the dreaded last time I bought new many years.The RF problem burnt out the motor and I had to remove the rear door to access the striker and cut through it to open the door.I returned the lock with the striker still in it and they replaced the lock and gave me a striker I fitted a remote jog switch then and haven't had a problem since, touch wood.:eek:;)

Could someone educate me on these remote jog switches, where to find one and installation. I'm actually going to be leaving the car sat for 10 days and this presumably is better than unplugging RF or disconnecting the battery.
 
I got mine from the Bay, make sure you get a jog switch so your missus doesn't leave it switched on isn't that right Brian.:eek::D:D I piggybacked the power and ground from the r f receiver wiring and cut the wire from the receiver to the becm, can't remember the colour and used the jog to make and break continuity.I could check if you get stuck but from memory the blue wire is the aerial the black and red are the ground and power so that leaves only one other that plugs into the receiver. Brian will probably have more information.

When I know I am leaving the Rangie unused for a while I have a solar trickle charger that I couple to the battery to keep it topped up. Believe quite a few people do use them

And this is the closest switch to the one i used as you get two remotes and its on a different frequency to the p38 unless you have a north american motor, this one is two button so you have to remember to press the remote again after you lock it

Couple of jobs ticked off. Pulled apart drivers door latch and checked some things. Nothing to report so I’ll monitor.

changed diff fluid, checked transfer box level (was done in the last 10k)

Going to grease prop UJs too - no play felt.

Just a weird one - when going on the flat or downhill between 40-50mph ish. If I very lightly press the throttle I get a chattery (chattery is probably too extreme) but there’s like a taking up slack vibration possibly.

The throttle press amount would be just slightly less than needed to accelerate or maintain speed.

light acceleration there’s no noise

I’m dreading that it could be the torque converter - is there any tests to assess health?

What's the mileage? Morse chain in transfer box might be stretched?

There's an inspection plate on the bottom of the autobox so you might be able to check for cracks in the flex plate.

I doubt it would be the torque converter, it does not have the daft variable slip clutch like the L322.
Might be the heat shields underneath, I had a noise similar to the one you describe on one of my P38's. Turned out the fixing clips had rusted away allowing the heat shield to drop.

Transfer box replaced with a recon box 10k miles ago so I would hope not!

I take it then it sounds like the torque converters are solid in these?
 
If it is rattly it may well be the heat-shield above the exhaust under the driver's seat area.
 
Believe it or not, my gearbox dipstick was just "unpopped" and it rattled much driving around. My dipstick "holder" at the top, where the stick stays put, has been sheared off and is gone, so i've zip tied it to make it not vibrate.
Works like a charm.
Might be worth checking, if it even has a dipstick for the gearbox..
Also, if one of the nuts, holding the air compressor stuck (on rubber feet) is abit loose, it can also vibrate quite much.
You will notice it if its the compressor when it starts, it will rattle the box and you can visibly see the compressor "jumping around" abit

unplugged and it fired up a dream.

finally got round to changing the rear bags today. Old ones were just a little worn!!

Back from holiday. Solar charger kept it all topped up.

finally got round to changing the rear bags today. Old ones were just a little worn!!
Well done for not going down the curly steel route.
