P.S my engine has only done 140 thousand... but my van has done 247 thousand and all still original, so id of thort the BMW engine would be good for ruffly the same high mileage, (had tha van mapped, its faster than penguin **** lol):hysterically_laughi

Don't know what your van is, but BMW ain't known for longevity:doh:

Yeh i thort he might of ment that but who ever fitted the 1 in mine didnt leave much wire on the ECU side... i dnt like messin with the wiring on the ECU but needs must lol, just a quickie... do ytou rate the "tuning" boxes for the P38 DSE or should i try and find some 1 who can map it... shes just soooooo lazy setting off and im only getting between 13 and 16mpg around town and thats with out even thrashing it... thanks
Hi Mike

Sorry been away, and no email! Hard Wire is as you correctly assumed is make all the connections using solder. This gives you 100% reliability. And yes take it out if it's black box as inside the comfort of the ECU box it's well protected. You can of course wrap some push bike inner tubing around it to give added protection.
Sorry I don't have my camera with me but when I get home I'll try and remember to take some piccies.
Ian

Hi, thanks for that, i personally would rather have it mapped, but a few places have said its too old, mine is an N reg (1996), and still hac an ECU sooo id of thort it was mappable... could i be checky and ask if you have a number i could ring?? ALL my contacts are for tuning and mapping VWs as soon as i mention rangerover or P38 its instant door slam in face... much appreciated...:)
Mike, you 'can' get it remapped but as you have found out it isn't common place.
If you scour the 'net' you'll find a company who can remap, but you will have to take the ECU out of it's plastic box, which certainly isn't difficult and send it to this company, I am trying to remember who or where I saw it, so you loose the use of the car for a few days. The other alternative is to add the box, which is what most of us have done. Choose your supplier!
I have a VW T5 which a brilliant vehicle but not 4wd, I couldn't afford the 4wd version and added to insult they don't do a LWB Kombi version!
So a P38 it was and at 3 grand for 1995 DSE Auto with spares prices that leave you speechless, well compared to VW et al, it does give you cheap motoring. Pair of front discs including pads for 50 quid, that won't buy you one disc for your T4!
Keep with it, once you get it sorted it will go on and on!
I bought mine to do one job of taking a mini digger on a trailer to France and I still have it, I couldn't bear to part with it! I have used it multiple times to get me from Pays de Galles (Wales) to my place in France.
The last MOT produced an amazed tester, who couldn't even find a referral, as he said it was the first time in years that has happened, there is usually something to refer! I don't believe next year I'll be as lucky as the drivers seat belts is slightly frayed.
Everything is sortable, even the air suspension!

YEHHHHHHHHHHHH, forgot to mention that this morning the rangie fired up first flick.. the 1 way valve works a treat, DEFANATLY recommend that simple idea as a good fix.

If you could only imagine how much i have already spent in mine....
All the new parts i fitted in it, its almost a new car...
(trying to fit oem land rover parts)

Well, i changed the fuel lines...not cheked yet if it worked
Waiting for the two head cylinder sensors (the ETC and ohter one).
Yesterday removed the air sensor that fits at the air admission (sorry, dont know the english word) - mine is non-egr, it was very dirty....cleaned it.

The non-return valve will be the next "upgrade"...

Ohhhhhh my god... got her starting fantastic HOT and Cold, but the bastard thing is STILL weaping on the 4th (electronic) injector ARGHHHHHHHH its gettin on my tits now.... i should of got a series 3 with a 2.25 diesel and rangerover diffs, yeh that buety let me have some serious fun lol... modern diesel engines??? WTF its tecnology gone mad!!!! a diesel engine should be basic, air fuel and compression, non of that fancy electronic crap etc... :mad2::puke2::flame::violent:

Ok chaps, rant over.... hmmm i feel better now.:):)

Agreed, unless you want power and fuel economy:rolleyes:

yes true but at least you can get it drenched (if you got a snorkel), run it on nearly anythin, do road side repairs, and normally they are super reliable lol...

Yep my excavator paddles happily in the river with the engine half submerged.:D

In the clear fuel pipe between the fuel filter and the FIP.
ive changed the glow plugs changed fuel filter/air filter and changed the yellow relay around in the engine fuse box fitted a none return valve between the fuel filter and injection pump but it still strugles to fire up strate away

Brian,

Injection pump?
THE fuel injection pump? Or the fuel pump at the fuel tank?
Thats the things i am going to do in mine (already have the sensors to fit in the cylinder head..)
