Labour cost is not an issue, I can fit a fuel pump
You have the timing gear then?

Yep just so, electrics are different. And seeing as how the bit that's going duff in on the top half of the pump, that is not an option. You would just be putting the failing part back on.
Wammers, feel free to elaborate then! If I don't have the right tools I'd still rather buy them than pay a garage to do a job that I'm perfectly capable of and will enjoy doing. If specialist tools cost a fortune I tend to adapt something or have something made up and if I do have to buy something specific and expensive it can always be sold on when the job is done.
If it's the same as the BMW timing kit it's a waste of money, you can set the cams with a straight edge and lock the crank with an 8mm drill bit. I've done a couple of M50 cylinder heads and an M52 head. I understand I need a small dti and adaptor too. Shouldn't be a problem, I have access to things like that at work and a machine shop that will make stuff in exchange for beer.
Excellent, thank you for your advice.
I assume the hole in the m51 block is larger than the flywheel hole as opposed to the M50 that are both the same?
Wammers (or anyone in the know), can you confirm for me that this kit on eBay contains everything I need? Not including the dti and dti mount of course. Thanks.

Thanks again wammers, so helpfull. I've now read up on the procedure and understand what I need to do. The only thing I'm not sure about is why the intake manifold needs to come out. Haven't had a chance to look under the bonnet yet but I am guessing it's for access?
