The central locking has started acting up recently.

Started by locking and unlocking itself whenever the front passenger door was used normally about a minute into the drive. The central locking no longer works using the key or the door pins when in the car. All doors lock and unlock off the key fob, with the exception of the front passenger side. It only unlocks but will not lock.

This is not a massive problem as a wee stretch over to push the passenger side lock down and hey presto. Just one of those annoying faults that always bothers you.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had the exact same problem when I bought my P38 - replaced the passenger side door lock/latch mechanism and all was sorted. I then had the drivers side one go within the space of about a month, its a common fault.

Reading a known magazine this month, they mention a pop change is to fit and aftermarket Alarm to control the locking etc.

has anyone done this ? I dont have an issue at moment, but curious for the future. (not that i'm gonna have an issue hopefully *fingers crossed*)
 
There isnt really a need to, the alarm and immobiliser on the P38 is already pretty secure, I believe it actually meets the Thatcham Cat 1 grade, the alarm system and immobiliser is also heavily tied into the BeCM as well that replacing it with an aftermarket system and getting it all to work would be difficult to say the least.

Just been given this advice on another forum

proberly the catch motor failed get it done quick as they can lock in super lock and its a rip the door pannel off with it closed and smash the catch to open have a ecu check done with testbook to check the others are ok and all the micro switchs work

What do you think?

Im not quite sure what is actually being talked about.

This is my first Range Rover so still getting my head round the electrical system, air suspension and lots more.

I am fairly handy, as owning an Impreza Turbo for 5 years tends to help with that.

Not to keen on a process of elimination as it aint cheap, though im sure most owners on here are fully aware that already.

The advice is sort of on the right track but it only really applies to you if you superlock the vehicle when you leave it - i.e. you do a double press on the remote and the indicators flash 3 times.

If you dont do that you will be fine, so, simple thing to do is only lock the vehicle by pressing the button once and then the superlocking mechanism wont activate and you wont get any stuck shut doors.

As far as having it on the computer to check the other doors, I wouldnt worry about that or bother with it. You will know if another door latch starts acting up as you will start getting the random locking and unlocking again. Not only that you may also get random door open messages when it isnt.

I knew when my drivers side latch was going as it kept telling the vehicle the door was open which it wasnt, it then started not locking when I pressed the remote. With my drivers side latch and then my rear drivers side latch started acting up the symptoms came on gradually giving me enough warning to get things sorted.

Ive just bought my first rangerover, Im a complete novice and would appreciate any help. Everything is fine with the motor except the front passenger door it doesnt lock or unlock with the fob but it will lock and unlock with the lock button on the door it also locks/unlocks all other doors, any ideas how to fix?

take out the door lock mechanism and strip it down, take the cover off it, about 6 small screws, connect it back to the car and fiddle with the little motor inside, you'll probably find it will lock all the dorrs sometimes but bot others. the alarm will also go off, just press the fob, once its doing locks and unlocks consistantly with both the fob and moving the parts then pack it with grases and put it back together(i used vaseline!!) should be fine then for a few years, its not guaranteed but a bit cheaper than a new part.

there are two wires(sets of) that go to the mech, one has several wires and a multi plug and another has just one wire. make sure these are nice and clean and secure.

also check the microswitch on the mech is good and working!

if it works youve save a few quid, if it doesnt youve wasted an hour of your life learning how to take the mech to bits!!!
 
its a good job gav that you managed to buy a p38 with so many problems isnt it,now you can help out with all the probs that come up.:p;)
 
it'll be practically brand new when i get it on the road anyway, just got: tyres, tax, insureance, pc, blend motors and seats to do also airbags too at some point!

bloody ell gav,you should have got rid of it before and just bought a new one,this ones costing you a bloody fortune,does the missus now how much you have or are spending on this.:eek::eek::D
 
she got no choice, as for newer, theres nothing saying that would be without fault!!! plus, in the not too distant future i will have replace everything, so it will be new!!
 
dont give me that old nugget,shes got no choice,i bet you go cap in hand beggin for more money everytime you need owt.
 
that is simple for a p38 mate!!

its true john!!! i make no excuses, she gets what she wants and so do i!! she just wants for nothing!!!!
