hi there got some major headache with my p38 started off with key fob batt low message replaced seemed ok...then shortly after couple of days perhaps it would then only start using the eka code...(remote red light still seems to flash ok! just not doing anything) getting back to the starting with the eka code the truck would start ok first time after being left all night then run very lumpy as if missing a couple of cylinders after bout 30 sec or so run ok.. and will continue all day long now if you stop it once started and have to re-entrer eka code it takes three or four attempts to start, turning over for 30 secs each time then starts stops belching out black smoke smelling of unburnt fuel runs lumpy then runs ok if you leave the ignition switch on after stopping to start again all ok... anyways now I stuck! eka code enters ok but wont turn over dont know have tried to re-sync key left key in position 2 disconnected bat all stuff i`ve read on the net
ps its a 1996 4.6hse any help appreciated am looking at getting the BeCM reprogramed with all the anoying alarm stuff ditched

I would be surprised if your BECM is causing difficult starting. If a BECM goes (Bosch or diesel system) out of sync ,then it will not start at all.
The GEMS system usually does not have this issue, but can go into a BECM alarmed state ,but then you should have Mesaages on Message centre stating Engine immobilised and/or Key code lockout.
You may have other underlying problems as well.Be interesting to see what the cause is.

hi there thanks for the help so far.. I Think your right JohnP38 am just not sure where to start have sent a pm to Irishrover he seems to be thinking ecu along with poss key fault or reciever not sure where to start with the fault.. have thought of running a live feed from the batt to starter motor once the eka code in to see if the starter motor is stuck!

could the becm be whats behind my problems in my thread 'hhheeelllppp'?

Only thing is im getting no warning messages or light and no faults showing on my obd!

Hi there everyone, i've
Managed to get problem sorted and want to say thanks to the help given through the forum i'm back on the road again..I have to give a massive thanks to irishrover...without whom it would have never been fixed.. This guy is God when it comes to the p38... Amazing thanks again

So what exactly was the problem then?

The keyfob, although flashing was not sending the code. The Becm was immobilised. Another keyfob, for which I had the code was supplied and the original keyblade fitted to it. The Becm was unlocked and reset, programmed with the new fob code and synchronised with the GEMS ecu. The engine ecu was put into adaptive learn mode and all went ok.
Another happy Bunny.
:D:D

Thanks for the mention Colin.

Well done John. Now to repair the original keyfob.I have one with same symptom:confused:

If you can get another working keyfob, it MUST come with details of the VIN from the donor vehicle, the fob code for the key can be obtained from a LR dealer and this number then programmed into your Becm. The keyblades are then swapped over.

as irishrover knows, my becm went off to be repaired.
what i want to know is, will this be the beginning of alot of other stuff going wrong inside it due to its age (12yrs)?
and is it better to buy a new or reconditioned one, that may come with some sort of warranty? disregarding the price for the moment.

New Becm's, I understand are no longer made, they are all reconditioned.
I have no problems with the replacement or repaired Becm's I supply. Furthermore, they are reliable and left unlocked (Which Test Book cannot do) so that further easy reprogramming, in the unlikely event of a lockout can be carried out....even with Test Book..which will lock it afterwards. BBS kit won't however.

so how much are we talkin if land rover cant get my p38 done to have a recon becm if its needed an my fob reprogrammin to it then

Probably your own Becm is just Alarmed and Locked out.
If that's the case, it's cheaper and again, returned and it's "Plug & Play"

OR you could go to the stealer and lob out over a grand !!

Just read through the feedback relating to either Rick or myself if you have any doubts.

:behindsofa:

at the moment stratsone is sayin if its what they think im lookin at 400 quid as they think its the door latch thats faulty hence y the eka code wouldnt work an then they will be able to reprogramme the fob they have had the car since wednesday an been told the earliest i could get car back is monday but they aint sure all i want is to be able to press button on my fob my door opens an i dont get the message engine disabled lol
